You should read THE SPEED OF DARK by Elizabeth Moon. The main character is on the spectrum and gets the chance to 'be normal'. Interesting book.

Dr. Temple Grandin, perhaps the best-known person with autism, has said that if science came up with a blue pill (or one with a yellow happy face, I guess :-) ) that she could take to make her NT, she wouldn't take it. She fears ahe would lose the way of thinking that has made her among the world's top designers of livestock handling facilities.
