Radio Lady Previews: "Annie" the musical in Portland, OR (Opens Tuesday, Feb. 20!)

"ANNIE"

Tuesday, February 20 through Sunday, February 25, 2007

Leapin' lizards! ANNIE is coming to Portland! The timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie is back, giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this classic musical about never giving up hope. Boasting one of Broadway's most memorable scores, including "It's the Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street," "N.Y.C." and the ever-optimistic "Tomorrow," Annie is a delightful theatrical experience for the entire family. Don't miss this all-new production that Variety calls "a winner!"

We saw this musical years ago in Boston, when my daughter was small. Now, I'm taking my nine-year-old granddaughter -- history repeats itself!

Portland theatergoers: Please call the Box Office for tickets and information: 503-241-1802.

All performances are held at the Keller Auditorium, SW 3rd Avenue and Clay Street, downtown Portland.

Everything meshed... the actors, the music, the set work, the general ambience.

Kudos especially to actress Katherine Pecevich, the understudy for the part of Miss Hannigan, who really stole the show. She's a big actress, and absolutely wonderful in the role (Carol Burnett played it in the movie). Swell to know that she's another former resident of Brockton, Massachusetts (my husband's home town).

Others in the cast includes Conrad John Schuck, with a wonderful voice and presence as "Daddy" Warbucks -- you may remember him from the TV program "McMillan and Wife," and more recently, in the Carnegie Hall concert performance of "South Pacific" -- and also lead child actresses Marissa O'Donnell as Annie, and Anastasia Korbal as Molly, age 6.
