Are you the type of asshole who leaves all the snow and ice on your car
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 09:08 AM by LynneSin
If you are - you can go fuck yourself

:grr:

Nothing like having a big slab of snow & ice hit your windshield because some lazy fuck was too fucking lazy to clean all the snow and ice off of their car

1. I hate that shit too!
:grr:  I clean my car off completely before I even THINK of driving it. It's been a while since it's snowed that much around here, but I've seen idiots scrape little cubbyholes in the snow so they can just barely see out of the front windshield and leave all the rest of the snow and/or ice on the car. If there's any layer of ice at all, it often flies off like the Phantom Zone thingie from Superman and hits whoever's behind them... :yoiks: Most people are freaking idiots around here when it comes to ice and snow...

Not only do you get hit but the person usually has a clear spot on their windshield the size of a quarter! This used to drive my crazy when I lived in Mass. I notice that it doesn't happen that much up here in NH

55. You don't have to tailgate to have that happen. I was stopped at a light minding
my own business. When the light turned green, the genius in front of me tried to peel out (great idea when there is ice and snow everywhere) and a bunch of ice broke off the top of his car and flew into mine. I now have a nice dent on my hood and I'm lucky I don't have a cracked windshield.

All the weight from the snow causes you to use more gas than if you had removed it. Economically and environmentally right think to do, as well as safety.

Where I couldn't park in the garage.
Sometimes, it was hard enough to get all the ice and snow off my winshield and back window. Then there was the thing about facing punishment if I was late to work. Luckily, there were few other cars driving at 6:00 a.m. on my route to work. Even if there was though, I never saw big chunks of ice or snow falling off my car as I drove.

39. I am, actually.
I've got the excuse now that I've got a great big van and I can't reach the roof, but even when I had a shorter car, I usually left the snow on the top. I've been guilty of the "scraping a tiny little porthole in the windshield" thing too, and then cranking up the heat so the rest would melt from the inside during the drive. Combination of being late and being lazy. But last night there was a news story about a woman whose windshield was shattered by a flying sheet of ice off a truck, which made me think maybe I ought to clean off the top of my van.

but, when I'm at work and it snows, I've gotta admit, I do. But, in my defense, around here the snow's so light that most of what's left blows off when I pull out of my parking space. Plus, it's usually 1-2 a.m. and there's not much traffic that late. And where I work ain't exactly the best part of town, so I want to clear my windows and get out of there.

44. no reason to leave the snow on the roof
for those of you who own a tall vehicle, buy an extendable carwash brush. The bristles are soft so they won't scratch your paint. I owned a conversion van and never drove it with snow on the roof. Nothing worse than driving along and having the stuff slide down your windshield during a sudden stop.

47. It's one thing if it's a dusting of snow
The storm that hit the NE dumped ICE in Delaware with a bit of snow. I spent an hour chipping away at the solid chunk of ice that encased my vehicle. So to leave that ice sheet on your car - if the ice flies off it can do some nasty damage to the car behind you.

But now I'm in San Antonio. Just the other day while on I-35 someone forgot to scrape one of these off their vehicle and it bounced off my door and took off my side mirror:

This is an inch thick solid coat of Ice & snow covering the car. It starts breaking off and it can be vary dangerous - feasibly breaking the window of cars behind the asshole

57. I hear ya sister! Not only does the ice pose a danger, but the lack of visibilty
caused by not cleaning off your windows and mirrors is an accident waiting to happen. We have enough problems dealing with the snow and ice on the ground, must we also have to endure getting pelted with ice chunks from assholes driving half-blinded by the ice on their cars?

Take a few minutes and clean off your fucking car asswipe. It'll do your car good to let it warm up a bit anyway.

75. the car cam
Given the ubiquity of video technology, i'm suprised that
cars are not regularly fitted with a digital camera that
can film all driving motion... like a voluntary black box, that
one could submit in court to show the license plates of irresponsible
truckers who leave sheet ice on their roofs,
hit and run drivers and so much else.

81. They're seriously considering making black boxes mandatory...
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 06:34 PM by Kutjara
...in the UK. Another big brother intrusion and a big step toward 24/7 citizen surveillance. Guess who's pushing hardest for their introduction? That's right, the insurance companies, who will go to any length to avoid paying out.

You can guarantee that if they offered "voluntary" black boxes in the US, they would quickly become mandatory. Also, if you had such a box in your car, it would be found during an accident investigation. If the case came to court, the judge would find it very strange if you didn't want to use it as evidence (which could be taken as an admission that an accident was your fault.) So, even with a voluntary black box, you would quickly lose control of the data it contained.

Like automatic speed limiters and remote immobilizers that the cops can use to kill your engine, I think black boxes are far more dangerous than helpful.

82. agreed
i was actually thinking of just a video camera mount that would allow a civilian
to keep a record of car-events, as often things happen (people keying cars, ice,
trucks without flaps throwing up rocks and cracking the windscreen, and so many
other events that with a legal video record, might win one for the person who normally
just has to eat the cost of irresponsible others, a way to chase them up.

Who remembers the number plate after all of the ice block that falls on your car,
or the number plate of a road rage attacker, or the car stereo theif, or the
criminal cop, foward and back video footage from pinhole cameras would be a nice
thing to have... this is entirely not a black box, and i hear you about that, with the
GPS and its ability to track movements of people... no way!

83. Your car cam idea could be great...
...as long as there were safeguards to keep the state from getting the footage if you don't want them to have it. Maybe an "instant delete" button or encryption of the data. It would certainly be good to be able to tape encounters with the law and to get the goods on vandals and dangerous drivers, as long as the government can't turn your own car into it's own little snitch.

The snow ended on Wednesday yet I saw all sorts of ice (none of it was snow) flying off the back of people's cars today. Huge roof sized chunks of it, people can get killed by something like that and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to be driving in NJ without cleaning off your car

I've been driving around for three days with the ice on the top of my car.

I actually couldn't get it off without breaking the sunroof, but this morning I saw some cracks in the carapace and decided to get it off the car.

In my defense, I haven't been driving on highways since the snow/ice storm. Only around Center City Philly.

Sorry Lynne - I did clear everything off the windows though, so if you gave me the finger, I'd be able to see it.

a SUV with snowpack on top, braked because traffic was stopped. The sheet of snow kept going forward and covered the windshield, so the driver couldn't see. So of course the right thing to do is take the foot off the brake ... bang! smack into the car in front.

no damage, except to pride.

I have a 45 min commute for many years and I can tell you that there have been times I've thought I was near death because of these ice sheets. Heavy traffic and all of the sudden an ice sheet the size of a car flies off the roof of an 18 wheeler. Sweet Jeebus, it can certainly cause you to have an accident or worse.

Same with cars and SUV's. People, please go the extra step to clean off the tops of your cars. It's just the safe thing to do. Even if it's incovenient.
