5. Considering the story line involves being stuck on an island
in the middle of nowhere, they have a remarkable number of new characters coming in and old ones leaving. I read somewhere that everyone on the cast is afraid of being killed off.

Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 08:44 PM by primate1
There's a chance it might get re-released on dvd with the deleted scenes soon. I really hope it happens.

I'm dying for the Lost Highway and Inland Empire dvd releases too, haha. Luckily with Inland Empire Lynch is in complete control so it'll most likely be out on dvd this year.

You'll love it-especially the episode where Dr. Rick is being chased around by the Highland Ghosts.

Some of the nastiest comments about the Scots ever. I fell down laughing. (And I'm part Scottish.)

Not a show everyone will get but you like Lynch and you enjoy horror, whether actually frightening or downright cheezy. This show is cheesy but you'll constantly find references to laugh at.

(on edit: did a search on youtube. There are a few on there right now.)

45. I know you have a good sense of humor.
There are too many people out there that wouldn't get any of it. Grainy footage, poor production values, what seems to be bad writing and acting both-and that's just for starters!

The premise is actually quite smart and refreshing: Let's pretend that we have found a horror show written and produced in the 80's for the BBC but was never aired. We'll say that it was too shocking to air at that time and we'll have an actor pretend to be a horror novelist (along the lines of a Stephen King-many jokes made about how most of his books are the same book over and over again) pretend to be the star and introduce each show. We'll have a backstory on each actor, even making a few of them "disappear", possibly as drug addicts or maybe prostitutes.

And we'll blame it all on the BBC. Oh, and Scotland. (You'll get that reference when you see that episode.)

I highly recommend it.

And I was just reading a synopsis of Dark Place, and it said "More obscurely, Darkplace makes reference to Lars von Trier's "haunted hospital" TV series 'Kingdom' ('Riget' in Danish) which was later remade by Stephen King for an American audience as Kingdom Hospital, with arguably Marenghi-esque results."

18. Well, the number have been revealed to be
a part of an equation. Dharma's purpose was to try and alter this equation (this is technically canon but was revealed through the LOST experience, though hinted at in the show). If you're curious about what the equation was highlight the following:

The Valenzetti Equation is the mathematical equation developed by the reclusive Princeton University mathematician Enzo Valenzetti. Its creation was the result of efforts made following the Cuban Missile Crisis by the United States and the Soviet Union to find a solution to the hostility and danger of imminent global disaster created by the Cold War. The equation was secretly commissioned through the UN Security Council and is used to predict the end of the world.

According to the 1975 orientation film in the Sri Lanka Video, the Valenzetti Equation "predicts the exact number of years and months until humanity extinguishes itself." In it, Alvar Hanso also states that the radio transmitter on the Island, will "broadcast the core numerical values of the Valenzetti Equation." The numbers, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42, are explained in the Sri Lanka Video, as the numerical values to the core environmental and human factors of the Valenzetti Equation. Alvar Hanso also states in the video that the purpose of the DHARMA Initiative is to change the numerical values of any one of the core factors in the equation in order to give humanity a chance to survive. However, Thomas Mittelwerk reveals that as of 2006, they have failed to change the values through manipulating the environment, as the equation continues to arrive at the same six numbers. It is unknown how or if the most recent calculation of the equation is automatically reflected in the radio transmissions.

Rachel Blake also learnt that the Hanso Foundation was forcing savants at the Vik Institute in Iceland to run the equation over and over. Somehow, five hieroglyphic symbols were involved in the calculations, the same hieroglyphs seen on the countdown timer in the Swan station.

The Blast Door Map included a reference to the equation; a zone on the island is marked as being of "low relevance to Valenzetti-related research activity".

The video in which this is revealed: http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Sri_Lanka_Video

This, combined with the flashbacks, plus the importance of being on the island has led many (including myself) to think one very likely possibility is Dharma is fighting fate (for obvious reasons based on the equation) and that fate is 'fighting back', though fate is probably just a vague force and not a specific consciousness. The island may possibly, through various unique qualities be immune to the eye of fate (or was as long as the button was pushed).

But then, maybe not! :P

I love this show.

23. 'Namaste' is a Hindu greeting/welcome
I also just read that when Desmond ran into Charlie on the street, he had a flashback or flash forward to the hatch that showed the computer with the numbers on the day of the plane crash. I didn't catch it. People with HD were able to get a screen shot. I also wonder what the year is. Obviously Charlie is not a famous musician (Driveshaft) if he's on the street performing for hand outs.

I'm trying to remember all that. Penny is looking for Desmond, by monitoring the electromagnetic pulses, right? Weren't those guys at the Arctic station Scandinavian, and wasn't one of them Jack?

Holy crap!! I thought it was fantastic! The whole jewelry store thing was mind-blowing!

The producers have been saying this was going to be a great season of Lost with lots of exciting things going on, and as far as I'm concerned they are delivering. I'm a diehard fan of the show though and can't envision that ever changing. (My only gripe/concern about the show is that I don't want them ever to kill off any of my fave characters and find them (producers/writers etc) occasionally to be a bit too zealous to kill people off.)

I know, I know, Desmond was telling him all
about his fate, but somehow, just by telling him,
I hope it throws fate off and he is spared.

I don't want any more good characters killed off!

In real life, the actresses who played Libby and Ana Lucia,
respectively, were arrested for a DUI and public intoxication
by the Honolulu PD, shortly after filming the episode where
they both were fatally shot.

Even though I would never condone a DUI,I understand
them tying one on after getting offed the show.

That's a hell of a job to lose.
