1. If I were him I wouldn't
That owner needs to be brought under control. Gibbs would have to have full control of the team for this to be a good decision for Gibbs.

Snyder (the owner) absolutely WORSHIPS Gibbs. (as well he should). i think Joe could slap him back into place

3. That may be THE REASON Gibbs would returning
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 07:38 AM by mouse7
Gibbs could could coach the kids he drafts into shape for a couple of years, then step back to be Team President or be given a piece of the team and take over as the minority owner in charge of operations.

Snyder is not the owner of the Redskins outright. He just owns the largest share of the team in a big partnership. This may be the other owner partners arranging Snyder's move out of the owners box.

As much as I disliked the previous "coach", the way Snyder undercut the guy at every turn was ridiculous. I would imagine they were lining Dennis Green up to take over the team, and Green told them to go jump because of the Snyder situation.

Right now the Redskins are looking at Fassel, Fassel, or Fassel. Everyone else seems to be walking away from any offers.

I would imagine the way the conversation is going, Snyder won't step aside as lead owner unless they "display" Snyder as the owner that wins a Super Bowl. So they are arranging for just that so they can kick his ass out of the owners box.

5. I don't see roly poly tweedle dum relinquishing control even to Gibbs
Snyder's one of those pathetic weenies who prolly never got picked to play sports, and now owns a team and wants to run everything HIS way just cuz he can. Control freak.

As a Cowboys fan, Snyder was the answer to my prayers, but at this point, it's just too tragic to enjoy anymore. I really hope he lets Gibbs take over.

4. BIG news topic on ESPN Radio
Joe Gibbs going back to the Redskins :wow: Dan Synder should just do whatever Gibbs would want, and stay the fuck out of his way! Washington hasn't has much to cheer about recently, so this will be an excellent move. Dennis Green would have ben great too, but I don't blame him for not wanting to be under Synder's thumb all the time

Right now Mike and Mike just asked Christ Mortensen to see if he can get any more details, but I think the next show will really be something--Tony Kornheser does most of his radio and tv work fROM DC, ad he'll be all over this! Meanwhile Golic and Greeney both agree this would be a real shot in the arm for the Redskins, aka what Jerry Jones did to bring in Bill Parcells.

6. why would he want to work for the little shit?
gibbs showing up doesn't equal instant success.

gibbs didn't work his magic all by himself, he had bobby beathard as the GM, a guy who had real eye for talent who dug up great players. gibbs also had some great coaches on his staff.

I say that's GREAT! I wish you the very best, and Godspeed in becoming competitive again. We have also learned that you need to get egotistical owners to step aside, and do what is best for the team. It will be great to see Gibbs scowling on the sidelines again.

18. See, now we need to fire Parcells
So he can coach the giants, and we (Cowboys) need to rehire Jimmy Johnson, and the NFC will be all set as the good-ole-days memory tour!

Landry would be better, but alas. And poor Philadelphia, they don't have anyone to look back to. Buddy Ryan? Maybe Vermeil? Actually, they may have their best coach right now.

33. Think so. Raising horses in Kentucky, last I heard.
I liked Buddy, even when he was doing his WWF publicity routines against the Cowboys. I was an Oiler fan when he punched Kevin Gilbride, and I can't remember cheering for any single Oilers coaching action as hard as I cheered for that. I wanted to punch Gilbride, too! 35-3 in the fourth quarter, and that idiot couldn't put together a drive to kill three minutes off the clock? (Different game, but same dumb offensive mind causing the problem).

Sorry for the odd little digression into obscure sports moments. Someone probably followed it.

21. Uh-Oh QB controversy between Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart
Now I know Gibbs was a great coach but he only has a short period of time to teach them to go forward and not just keep making left hand turns.

:bounce:

Stewart apparently has already been suspended by the league and will be forced to take anger management classes.

never knew how to read, and yet was a star in the NFL.

How the hell does one get into the NFL not being able to read?

How the hell does one get thru the public school system not being able to read?

38. Forget NFL and public school. He had a university diploma.
Graduated from Oklahoma State, and couldn't read. He said that when people asked him to read a newspaper article, he would say "I'm trying to do (whatever he was doing) right now, could you read it to me?"

Yes, you are correct if you recognize that as EXACTLY what Bush does, according to his own staffers.

To Dexter's credit, he learned to read after he admitted he couldn't, and became a literacy spokesperson. He also got banned from football for drug abuse and wound up in prison a couple of times since. Sad, interesting person.

44. You know, that does bring up an interesting, SERIOUS, question
Wonder if Gibb's will try to get Doug Williams as a coach? I remember telling my wife that Snyder should hire Williams as head coach, but not sure he was ready to jump that many levels. But as offensive coordinator, he could be interesting.

Since Williams replaces Schroeder, was the connection, in case you are confused.

Don't remember spefically whether it was to a bigger college or the NFL. I don't think he brought it up, I think it was more of an ambiguous response to a question about his future plans.

Jay Schroeder-- his greatest achievement was getting injured so that Doug Williams could take over.
