It's exaggerated Southern, I guess. I personally haven't met anybody that sounds THAT bad.

On PBS they were doing a production of South Pacific. It was not fully staged, it was an orchestra with the characters in front, acting and singing, but no sets.

Reba was playing Nellie Forbush, and she was SCOOPING into every damn phrase. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Taking a classic musical and turning it into nasal, scooping shitkicker whine.
She wasn't as nasal as she usually is, but the scooping got me. She really overdid the hick aspect of Nellie's character. Just because Nellie is supposed to be from Little Rock doesn't mean she's an inbred Appalachian.

And this was in front of a real symphony orchestra. I could NOT believe that John Williams, the conductor (Yes, that one, the one that's written a zillion movie scores) would let her get away with it.

Ruined it.

I think she's from Oklahoma. I've heard lots of people with even worse accents, but always in rural areas of Texas, Oklahoma or Arkansas.
