Young Life
when I was a freshman in high school I got sucked into their little cult, I was expected to go because my older brother was really into it. I went and sang songs and watched stupid skits and prayed. I even recruited my friends to go, but by that time I was going stoned every week. I even got up at 5 in the morning once a week to go to bible study before school. Luckily I heard Nirvana, and some sense was knocked into me before they could do any permanent damage.

1. My dear Mrs. Sniffa.........
I haven't heard of this group........Is it an East Coast thing?

I'd say you did well to escape them, though!

And definitely there wasn't any permanent damage!

:woohoo: :woohoo:

19. Coupla friends o' mine once drove like 100 miles
down here to "talk with me" about Amway.

The more they talked, the more they convinced me it was a scam.

20. They're all freaks.
My "friends" hounded us 24/7 to get involved in buying tickets for their holy roller rallies. After a month of that crap, Mr. Gray told our "sponsor" to leave us alone with their Born-Again Amway Bullshit or he was going to beat the living shit out of him and his entire upline.

We still run into out "ex-sponsor" every now and then. Guy runs away like a scared little rabbit. Course, we're crazy muthafukkers from Lynn, so maybe that's why.

5. I begged my parents to let me be a Lifer.
They were wise to convince me to let it go. I attended a few events and yes, they were insane.

11. I went to two of their camps
The whole presentation is canned- same exact thing at both.

At the "Come to Jesus" moment at the end of camp I turned in a letter asking why Jesus wasn't equivalent to all the Gods of other religions and why they had to be so exclusive about it.

They prayed that everyone would make it to the top of a mountain the whole group was forced to climb. And even though I got hit by a rock from an avalanche on my ankle halfway up the mountain, they dragged me to the top. Prayer must be answered, goddammit.

I'm a Christian, but not their kind.

16. Oh my god, me too!
It's funny. The young man who got me involved looked rather like the "conventional" Jesus and I think that it my confused brain, this was somehow important. He was a wonderful, enthusiastic, kind, emotional guy who, it turns out, came out of the closet in college, about five years later.

18. I went when I was in high school, but I had a great time. I think it
was because of the two guys who ran our group. They were hysterically funny, and didn't have that awful holier-than-thow attitude that drives me nuts.
