Funny occupational terms...
I've heard lots of funny terms and phrases used by people in certain professions. Hospitals have some funny ones.

My favorite, though, is a term used by Flight Attendants. "Crop-dusting" refers to passing gas while walking up the aisle.

Who's got others?

we would always log RTFM next to idiotic callers' call descriptions. It meant "Read the Fuckin Manual".

8. Re: Funny occupational terms
Back when I worked in wildland fire we had some good ones:
CDF (California Department of Forestry) = "Can't Dig Fireline". Also "Coffee, Donuts, and Fun"
DNR (MN Department of Natural Resources) = "Do Nothing Right"
"Fish & Feathers" is the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

10. Crop-Dusting
First time I ever heard that term was from a beautiful, senior African-American flight attendant. She is flying a trip with a good friend of mine right now - tonight - in fact. He just called from Philly.

Crop-dusting is, indeed, farting by the F/As. Farting is a natural reaction of the body being raised in altitude. As the outside pressure decreases, with altitude, the inside pressure looks for an escape. In other words, EVERYBODY is farting on a high-flying jet.

F/As are cool and smart. They will fuck you over in a second. My favorite is a guy F/A in DC (a good friend of mine) who goes from row-to-row with a plastic trash bag. His line is:

"Sir? You're trash. You're wife's trash. Your kid's trash."

He is the same guy who, near the end of the boarding process, always pages the Griswalds. "Will Clark Griswald please ring his call-bell."

14. Natural reaction to altitude
Why our aircrews referred to exposure suits as "poopy suits". The suits had the ability to contain all that gas and vent it from the collar.

30. Not exactly an occupational term...
But we have a specail terms used by people who play in the world's largest trivia constest.

Slamming is where a team keeps calling in bullshit, obviously incorrect answers until the last possible second in order to tie up the phone banks so that fewer teams can correctly answer the question. (Questions that fewer teams answer correctly are worth more points) It was a fairly common practice up until 1990, when the contest moved into a one call per team per question format at the request of the City of Stevens Point, Portage County Emergency Government, and the phone companies. However, starting with the 2000 contest, special "retro hours" were established where the old unlimited calls per team rules are temporarily put back into effect for an hour or two usually during the wee hours of the morning.

"Runners" are people who are sent to do the "Running Questions" on Saturday and Sunday Mornings, which involve walking to various places in Downtown Stevens Point and answering questions. The term "Runner is also used for people taksed with going on resupply runs to the store for more soda, coffee, food, beer, etc.

A "hot run" is three or four consecutive hours where a team has accumulated a lot of points.

A "C-Breaker" is a someone who pulls an answer out of thin air that is worth over 100 points (which is quite a bit).

The "Net runner" is a person who is usually a fast, accurate typist who has very good search engine skills tasked with searching the internet for answers.

32. Railroading language is interesting:
http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/rrtalk/

just think of the sentences you can make with:

Hot Box

Trim

Hump

Go "in the Hole"

When I hired-out in work orders a little over a decade ago, A conductor called me and said "The hoghead killed the horses because we were about to die". That was stunning. Translation: The Engineer idled the units and left the train because their hour of service were about to expire.
