Anyone know anything about these investment companies that will buy your house for cash?

Will they screw me any more than the real estate agent taking 10k commission for selling it?

1. they usually offer much, much lower buying prices.

As an example, we sold our house a while ago for $175K; one of the investment companies, only a few months earlier, had offered $90K.

You can always ask, though. Nothing is official until you sign a contract.

2. They are "flip" factories

They buy a house at well below market value, put in maybe 5-10K of improvements and put it back on the market at a little above market value.

3. If it's someone who puts up spam signs that say "WE BUY HOUSES," then RUN, do NOT walk,

outa there as fast as you can. They specialize in preying on people who have financial troubles and are desperate enough to sell their house for half of what it's worth.

There's other sleazy stuff they do as well. I'd suggest starting with a google search of "we buy houses" in parentheses,plus the word scam.
