Welcome to DU State Television. Who gets purged, and why?
We've already established that "24" is right-wing propaganda- OFF THE AIR!

Apparently, Rachael Ray has revealed herself as a RW shill. Yum-o. OFF THE AIR!!!

What other programs are off the schedule for the new season, and why?

5. "The Simpsons"
They've had Kelsey Grammer, REPUBLICAN, as a guest voice as Sideshow Bob. And I think we all know the consensus around here as to Kelsey Grammer. You KNOW he'll be on "The Simpsons" again.

I'm not sure about Court TV.

Jerry Falwell and Billy Graham types of shows - gone!

Tweety and his co-horts - bye!

17. That would be the source of it's effectiveness...
propaganda doesn't really work if you realize you're being propagandized. (Unless you're open to the message of the propaganda in the first place.)

24 goes. I'd rather keep Bill O'RWShill...at least even his fans realize he's a GOP mouthpiece. Much less dangerous.

18. 24 seems to be formulating a MIHOP scenario
If it's propaganda I'd sure like to see where it's going.

20. It's the small things that it sells to the American public...
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 06:41 PM by Chan790
torture works, liberals care more about rights than safety, etc.

edited: I forgot the "s" at the end of "sells"

21. Well, I really think you're overstating its influence
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 06:49 PM by Mojambo
But this is an argument that has been had out here over and over and I don't really have any desire to go at it again.

FWIW, I thought this week's episode demonstrated quite well how torture DOESN'T work and the devestating price of using it.

And as a liberal I do care more about rights than safety, and as Ben Franklin will tell you, there's nothing wrong with that.

(edited for apostrophe misuse)

22. Yeah, I'm not really interested in rehashing it...but one point
I don't think that we, as liberals, care more about rights than safety. Rather, we know safety doesn't come at the expense of rights but ultimately loss of rights will make us less safe.

23. That's a better way of putting it.
And this point was driven home again in this week's episode when a supposed lead from one of the detention centers turned out be be nothing and the people locked up weren't terrorists after all.

24 is an action comic book put on television. It takes current events and mashes them together to produce heightened drama. I just don't think they're trying to make any kind of point. I understand that others disagree though.
