I just survived a terrible car accident! Ask me anything
It didn't happen at a particularly busy intersection either. This woman in a minivan was driving her three children to play basketball at a park, and in her rush, ignored a stop sign and plowed in the drivers side of my car (which was, incidentally, where I had been sitting). 45 MPH, no skid marks, no visible signs of having attempted to prevent the accident. The driver's seat of my car was obliterated. I'm lucky to even be starting this thread.

I sat there for a minute, glaring at her, catching my breath. Stupid sow took a seat on the curb and began to cry. Her little litter didn't seem too pleased with the situation either.

I sustained a fractured pelvis, and a mild contusion on my bladder. Nothing that serious. No internal bleeding. The nurse found my affinity for morphine pretty damn funny. My God, that's a heck of a thing. All of your troubles seem to be miles and miles away. You feel so heavy, but unburdened, and relaxed.

And now my car has gone where all marvels of French engineering go when they cease to function — THE SCRAP YARD.

So do these close brushes with death tend to radically transform a person?

for the idiot that hit you.

6. well I overheard her trying to shirk responsibility as she conferred with
a cop. Said she "might have" run the stop sign. The cop set her straight, told her it was virtually impossible to jump from zero to 45 MPH in less than a couple of seconds.

That worthless shitheel really shouldn't be accorded the privilege of being able to travel from point A to point B, unless point B happened to be the depths of hell.

10. I can TOTALLY sympathize. You'll be in a lot more pain later and I
hope you have some serious pain medication.

Track each and every single expenditure, doctor's visit, ache and pain.

Make sure each visit documents that you're there due to a car accident.

And hire a good lawyer as soon as possible, by recommendation. Don't go through the phone book.

And take the pain killers precisely when you start to feel the pain kick in, don't wait until you're really hurting.

Drink lots of water.

Rest.

2. Yikes!
I'm glad you're (relatively) OK.

Thank Zeus for higher auto-safety standards. 20 years ago, that crash would've killed you.

Stay well.

8. my car was 23 years old
dilapidated and French. coming apart at the seams, but built like a tank. Great engine too. People on the street have approached me asking me for a rough estimate per the cost of the engine and the engine ONLY

Oh, my poor, poor car.

7. the doc said it's a pretty stable injury, and I'm young and resilient.
Not a clean break, either.

Worse things could have happened. Seriously, you have to see what's left of my car to believe that I emerged from it with only a busted hip.

9. Glad that you are (somewhat) OK...
Fractured pelvis doesn't sound very trivial though. Best wishes for a complete recovery. Don't rush things, let yourself heal as you will; rushing things like that can only make them worse in the long run.

11. Thank God-dess/Buddah whatever
you're still with us.

Sorry but when I see some of these nin-com-poops in mini vans, on the phone, the kids in the back acting like brats, I want to stop my car and run like hell.

12. Two cars are heading directly for each other...
Car A is traveling at 35 MPH while car B is traveling at 50 miles an hour, given that the cars start 1 mile from the other, estimate the time it will take for me to get flamed for this joke.

13. Yes...temporairly
people are radically transformed but it usually wears off soon and they are back to their old selves, which can be a good or bad thing. Congrats on coming away from an accident like that, glad you are still with us.

18. You're very lucky
For a fractured pelvis you should be entitled to some damages. WHY would anyone run a stop sign? It takes about two seconds out of your time.
