4. I do!
In high school my French teacher crossed her sevens, as well as a physics teacher. My calc teacher crossed his z's.

I thought it made sense, so I started it. z <> 2, 7 <> 1.

Also made my old freeper boss's head explode.

5. Gotta do 'em both--how else can I tell them from hastily scrawled
twos and fives?

I'm thinking umlauts over the two. ;)

7. yep.
When my daughter was in 2nd grade her teacher kept marking math answers "WRONG" because she crossed her 7's.

I finally had to have a little chat with the lady - my daughter's dad & his partner and I all crossed our 7's - so of course she thought that was the normal way. The teacher finally relented and said she wouldn't mark her answers wrong anymore. :eyes:

21. I was an occasional crosser UNTIL
The machine-read Überweisung MISREAD my 7 as a one. Had a human being looked at it the mistake would not have occurred as my one is a single line, no flag, no tail. Since then I have RELIGIOUSLY crossed my 7s.

11. I majored in French as an undergrad
We were required to write as the French do--flags on the tops of 1s, crossed 7s. If you put flags or tails on the tops of 1, you pretty much have to cross 7, or they look alike.

So, I got in the habit then, been doing it ever since.

16. Absolutely! To do otherwise is to be.... uncivilized.
I started doing it in German classes, but then it came in real handy studying engineering in college making sure that I could tell "2" from "z" and "Z" in my note-taking and math doing.

19. I slash my 7's and 0's plus I make my 8's with two little circles.

... as opposed to making an eight with one fluid gesture.

Must be some sort of OCD thing.
