Can somebody answer a stupid question for me...
how do you convert km to cm's? I haven't done this stuff since middle school and now I need to know how again for my geology class! I feel like a moron, but I'm desperate!

Thanks,
mcctatas

1. Sure
There are 100 cm in a meter, and 1000 meters in a kilometer. So from km to cm you need to multiply by 1000 and then by 100 :)

3. Kilometers to centimeters?
1 km = 1000 m.
1 m = 100 cm

So to get cm, 1000 X 100 X n, with n being the number of km you are trying to convert. So 1 km = 100,000cm.

4. Or since
1 km = 1000m, and 1 m = 100cm, that means that 1 km/1000 m = 1 and 1 m/ 100 cm = 1.

It also means that

1 km * 1000m/1km * 100cm/1m = 100000 cm.

Basically LynzM, alarimer, and I are all saying the same thing. :P

13. By the time I got done, one of you had already posted
Metric is so much easier. I am so used to it from work that I sometimes tell people the temperature in Celsius: "It was 37 degrees here today (say in July)". They always look at me funny.

6. Here's another stupid question:
why is a bluebird called a bluebird yet a robin is called a robin when they look the same except the bluebird is blue and the robin is brown?

Why do hotdogs come in a package of ten yet hot dog buns come in a package of eight. It's just not logical!!!!

10. 1000 metres to the km, 100 centimetres to the metre
that means 100,000cm = 1km.

convert cm to km divide by 100,000
convert km to cm multiply by 100,000

if it's a map with scale 1:100,000 1cm on the map is 1km.
