Tennessee Walking Shark on endangered list.
The Tennessee Walking Shark is unique in it's ability to traverse great distances over dry land.

It's overly developed pectoral fins (which it uses as flippers) together with it's rudimentary lungs (in addition to a fully functioning gill system) enable it to move far from it's native Gulf of Mexico habitat.

Apparently it is also able to thrive in fresh, as well as salt, water.
It is found as far north as the Tennessee River and it's tributaries.
Hence the name.

1. I always thought a Tennessee walker was a horse.
A skittish one, at that.

Interstates have just about wiped out their migration routes.

Really messed up my alignment, but the truck was otherwise okay. I pulled away without thinking, only to see three cars and two tractor-trailers all pull over. The occupants all got out and started fighting over the shark. Doh! Roadkill is legal food! That was about $1,200 worth of dinner I left back there on the asphalt. Next time, I'll throw him in the back, take him home and marinate him in the bathtub.

We also have walking catfish, but seeing as how you tend to find them near the nuclear power plant at Watts Barr, most people aren't too keen to eat them. But you can't do any better than to have dinner walk up to your porch and wait patiently for you to filet it.

It's the talking catfish that I won't touch. They give me the creeps.
