Tom Coughlin is the new head coach of the Giants

Coughlin will sign a four-year contract and, while financial details were not immediately available, the deal is believed to be worth about $3 million annually. The sides met for a second time Monday and, by evening, negotiations had begun.


Early Tuesday, the contract was being reviewed by Coughlin's agent, Gary O'Hagan.


Coughlin was 72-64 in eight seasons as coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and took the Jags to two AFC championship games. He was fired after a 6-10 season in 2002, with two years left on his Jacksonville contract. Coughlin would have been due $3 million from the franchise in 2004.

Well, I never liked Coughlin, but he did lead the Jacksonville Jaquars to one spectacular season. Here's hoping!

He DID take the Giants to a Super Bowl. He always seemed to do his best when the expectations were low.

I'm a Giants fan, and I kind of liked him. I was sorry to see him go, even as it became more and more inevitable.

Fox now head coaches the Carolina Panthers, Payton now coaches under Bill Parcells with the Dallas Cowboys.

There is no media market like NY and I wonder how soon they'll turn on him...the small town media in Jax hated TC even through the heady days of the late 90's... I can just see if he runs a Camp Coughlin type camp...the press will have a field day and he could spontaneously combust!

Of course, it must be nice to get fired from a 2mil/season job, get paid to lay off a year and then land a 3mil/season gig...
