Man envisions Christian nudist colony for families
I'm speechless....

<snip>
HUDSON -- The spot Bill Martin selected for his modern-day Garden of Eden looks nothing like paradise, at least not yet.

The lakes are dirty, the trash piles massive, the former owner's land deeds are loaded with racist dogma. And then there's the pedophile problem, one of the many things standing between Martin and his dream: a family-friendly, Christian-themed nudist community in this rural Tampa suburb.

He's a determined Quaker who envisions a place where man and woman and their children can roam shame-free in the buff. A place similar, in spirit if not in name, to the paradise described in the Bible's book of Genesis, before Adam and Eve ate illegal fruits, acquired shame and donned fig leaves.

17. Quakers are not right wing - not even a little bit
not by a long shot. Quakers are probably more liberal than most people who call themselves liberal.

3. They will re-enact the story of Lot...
who had sex with his daughters after his wife turned into a pillar of salt. The classic Republican wet dream.

4. The guy's a Quaker, why all the RW comments?
I don't really think of Quakers as being RWers in any way.

5. Christian naturism...
is actually a fairly large sub-group among naturists/nudists.

I've only ever been to one naturist retreat, but they seemed like really happy, laid-back people.

7. What's the problem?
Quakers are about as peaceful and caring a group as you will find.

Not for me, but good for him.

8. Didn't the Quakers invent streaking as a protest method?
Or is that just urban legend?

I always thought of the Quakers as private conservatives who are political liberals. They had a group at WMU when I was in college. Although I didn't participate, they were known for being non-judgemental and compassionate, and to have no issues with gays.

The Quakers certainly have produced their share of leaders-William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, Dolly Madison, and, probably to their eternal shame, Richard Nixon.

9. Most nudists ARE family values right-wingers
Nothing new here. During the fuss in Florida over the nudist camps a few months ago, the owner of the camp in question was interviewed and verified this.

13. Sorry, but my very RW fam and church
prize modesty very highly. No WAY would they consider nudism to be ok. They don't even approve of nudity in classical art!

Nudity and RWers are almost mutually exclusive. *l*

15. Not so
Time magazine was curious to find out exactly where these nudists came from. How they vote and what -- out side of the pleasures of nothingness -- do they believe. They asks the AANR and they found out... surprise, surprise.
Two years ago, A.A.N.R. paid the marketing firm Claritas Inc. to analyze the membership of the 72-year-old group. Claritas found that the cluster most likely to renew A.A.N.R. membership is a group it labels "God's Country" --primarily executives from the exurbs who tend to be Republican. Their key issues are tax reform and terrorism; they like Golf Magazine and GMC Safari vans. And most have kids at home.

Sounds like Ann Coulter will be running the Christian nudist camps for the new converts from the Islamics. Of course Ann will be wearing only a jock strap cuz her thingy hangs down to her knees like a wet paper sack.

20. Quakers are cool!
Seriously though, I clicked on the thread with hopes of making crass, hideous jokes about Catholic Priests and little boys but I find out the article is about Quakers. I have way too much respect for Quakers to make fun of them.

My best friend growing up was from a Quaker family and I would go with her on Summer Quaker retreats (summer camps for the entire family). Everyone was extremely nice, non-judgemental, and very peaceful. Great people.

23. Quakers were early leaders in the abolitionist movement
They were leaders in the underground realiroad and if I'm not mistaken "The Nation" was founded by Quakers!

Quakers are pacifists.

Quakers are our friends, please lets not confuse them with right wingers. Quakers are Christians in the truest sense of the word.
