wanted to call it the NFL-AFL World Championship Game. Other suggestions, by team owners, were "The Big One" and "The Final Game."

Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt came up with "Super Bowl" but gave credit to his young daughter. She was bouncing a Silly Putty ball and told her dad it could do really neat stuff. "It's my Super Ball," she said.

When the term was coined in 1903, though, no one outside the U.S. played baseball — at least, not that anyone knew of.

Still, it was rather jingoistic thinking, and without foresight.
