Snow in Seattle! The city is effectively shut down!
This is my first winter here, and the first major snow of this winter. The city is shut down, accidents everywhere, work cancelled. A good day to stay indoors and be a political junkie.

2. I miss snow! Originally from NE and now live in Florida...
It's 75 degrees here and sunny (as usual), and in general I love it, but I must say if there is one thing that I miss, it is snow. Ah, the "snow day" - no work - nothing to do, but watch the flakes.

Enjoy rumguy!

No work, no meetings, can't even visit my cat in the hospital. My husband walks to work, but I have to go to Bellevue, so I will be staying home.

Welcome, btw.

6. With the way Seattle drivers are....

a new pile of dirt along the freeway causes horrendous backups as everyone slows do to take a good long look at it.

If it rains the traffic slows, if it's sunny, it slows, but if there's even the remotest hint of snow, even if it's reported in Alaska, the traffic here comes to s screeching halt. It's pathetic really.

Because so many people are either purposely aggressive or just bad drivers. Thank goodness I don't need to get on it for my work commute!

We're under a foot of snow here. It's no fun because I can't go in to work. Got lots to do, but can't get there.

Oh well. Sigh. Guess I'll stay home and look out the window.

But I know what you're going through. I lived in Oregon for 18 years.

12. Yeah I just moved to Seattle from St. Paul
and I must say that it's the hills here that make the snow so treacherous...this city is really hilly. But beyond that, in any city that isn't used to snow, there is also a certain panic factor as well...

My daughter stays home and there will be cocoa!

My husband is from MN- Thief River Falls, and *everytime* it snows here (Seattle) he makes the same old joke about how everyone is ready to burn the furniture and eat the children. And it cracks him up when school's cancelled.

***Don't miss Jim Foreman's reports on KING 5 (I think) He always stoops way down and points at the accumulation saying things like "It's really starting to stick out here now!". He's a riot.

17. Jim Foreman is going to be sooo pissed!
Meeghan Black the cute weathergirl wrecked the brand new fully equipped camera news suv this morning as we were watching the school closures. I nearly died laughing. She was chasing down dangerous intersections and wrecks. I saw Jim Foreman the other night on the news lovingly introducing viewers to the new news suv. What do you think he'll do when he sees what she has done? Last reports, she was heading to three garages in Ballard to get estimates. The funniest part is that they have that newfangled camera in the car to record the news as it happens...We might actually get to witness Jim Foreman strangle Meeghan later today...<Snicker>

Hurray for Union snow. Subversive weather for those who get paid to stay home!!

16. More than the hllls.
In Minnesota everybody who can reach the pedals has lots of experience driving in the snow.

Here the only people driving in the snow are insane. I think the only people out are californian transplants who have never seen the snow and figure they should go for a drive for a closer look, and people who say, "Oh Gosh! It's snowing! I better speed up so I can get home faster!"

To me there is nothing more magical than when it snows in Vancouver, because it happens so rarely, but when I was a kid it happened all the time.

Now, I'm missing all the cool snow. I long to look out my bedroom window in to the street light at 2:00 am and see the whole place getting dumped on. Then to see my street, and the hills all covered.

sniff.

Nope, didn't go see the show. We had a NYE party instead. I did manage to see them at Bumbershoot this summer, though. We had planned to see the New Pornographers, but that show filled up quickly, so we hightailed it over to get in line for the Long Winters. It was great!

My manager just told me that I can go home at 1:30, so I'm outta here soon!

people have forgotten how to drive in snow. On Interstate 5 and 205, all the idiots whiz by at 70. You usually see them again a little further up the freeway, in a ditch, or parked half-on and half-off a median. Or they end up skidding into a slower moving car, and bring all the traffic to a complete halt.

On edit: the typing lessons still havent kicked in yet.

I had some chains left over from college and woke up early to install them. I can't believe how long it took to drive home. So many cars stalled in the middle of the street. So many children sliding down the streets.

On the other hand, emergency personnel are doing a wonderful job of herding the vehicles.

"This morning on KING 5 they were out in their 'Storm Cruiser' on the streets of Seattle. It is more or less a 4 wheel drive with a camera in it.

As they were driving down one of the hills talking about how slick it was and people should stay off the roads they slammed into the back of a car. Live on TV."
