Man Seeks Christian Nudist Colony

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20040106/ap_on_fe_st/christian_nudist&e=4

HUDSON, Fla. - Piles of trash, dirty lakes, racist property deeds and pedophiles living nearby have not deterred one man's dream of creating a Christian-themed nudist community.

Bill Martin has purchased about 240 acres of land about 30 miles outside Tampa for a little more than $1.6 million, much of it on the site of an old nudist colony that had fallen into disrepair, which he and his business partners hope to transform into a modern-day Garden of Eden.

The renovated park — to be called Natura — would feature an open church, a giant water park for the kids and classes in family building and strengthening marriage.

Martin said he had not yet figured out what to do about four registered sex offenders living in or around the park, though he said he's discussing it with his attorneys.

Another problem is the deed to the dilapidated clubhouse and beach, in which the former owner had included language banning black people.

3. Pedophiles live nearby?
What, do they have to register and put a huge letter "P" on their front door?

6. No, but they have to register and provide their addresses.
There was a registered sex offender living in the apartment building next to mine. So, no actual "P", but a virtual one.

11. True, but here at least, the offense is noted along with name and address.
So, I knew this particular guy had been convicted of a crime against a minor.

13. I know 2 who got convicted of the same thing
Both are married to the "victims"

Ages @ time of crimes
17 + 16
16 + 15

Angered parents ruined the lives of two fine young men. In most areas the lists just say sex w/minor, and forgot to state the age of the accused.

19. Don`t get me wrong,
When an adult,(M or F) molests a prepubecent child, they get know mercy from me. My mother was a vitim. (Age7-12)

The fear factor has driven this over the top as with most reactionary laws.

7. Well, actually...
with the unconstitutional laws that are on the books now, that is pretty much what they have to do. They are registered and it is made known when any sex offender moves to just about anywhere in the country. And here a though we were a "Christian nation," all about forgiveness and what not.

"Martin said he had not yet figured out what to do about four registered sex offenders living in or around the park, though he said he's discussing it with his attorneys."

How about letting them live their lives? What, you're going to get them evicted because you worry about them molesting the nude little kiddies? How about worrying about the pedophiles your little colony will harbor?

People are such idiots.

10. I think they should register
I really didn't think this thread would be about this but here goes.

If there are pedophiles in my neighborhood (convicted that is) or even my town I want and deserve to know that. It is a public health issue and since recidivism is so high with these uh people they need to be watched and the community warned.

Even meds can only go so far. They should be kept away from society, just my opinion.

20. Hopefully at some point an answer will come from science.
In the mean time, we need to have rational discussion about what really is a crime.
As a 15-16 year old, my neighbor begged me for 2 years to deflower her. Notes, Polaroids, phone calls, you name it. She was 12-13 at the time. (With a bod of a 21yr old) NO I never did, but even if the photos or letters had fallen into the wrong hands I would have been branded for life. Unable to live anywhere (New Laws), unable to work anywhere. I know as a young woman she was not capable of making adult choices, but she was not totally free of responsibility.

16. I saw a Ped on
one of the talk shows (don't think it was Oprah) ages ago. He was living in a place and walked next door to the new family moving in and introduced himself.

"Hi, I'm _______ (don't remember his name) and I'm a pedofile." As you can imagine the family dropped their collective jaws.

He made an issue of talking to the community not only so they could know, but also he was asking for their help in staying straight.

That took a lot of guts. I have to admire that.

21. I agree completely.
"since recidivism is so high with these uh people they need to be watched and the community warned"

I agree. OTOH, having served their time, they have the right to live their lives in relative peace. Many convicted pedophiles no doubt wish to attempt to be cured, to live within what's right and what's the law.

I object to the notion that anyone has the right to kick such a person out of the neighborhood.

I doubt a perv would last long in a colony. I think he would stick out. (pun intended)
