Mystery Science Theater 3000 will air for perhaps the last time on 1/31
The contract extension between Best Brains and Sci-Fi Channel expires at the end of January. That means MST3K will leave the television, perhaps forever, at 11 a.m. Eastern and Pacific time, on January 31, 2004.

1/3 - 9 a.m. - <1011> HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND

1/10 - 9 a.m. - <819> INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN

1/17 - 9 a.m. - <1008> FINAL JUSTICE

1/24 - 9 a.m. - <1006> BOGGY CREEK II

1/31 - 9 a.m. - <912> THE SCREAMING SKULL (with short: ROBOT RUMPUS)

The is very sad news. Although I haven't watched MST3K for years (because Saturday at 9 am is not a convenient time for me), I still think that it was one of the funniest shows of all time.

1. Wouldn't there be enormous DVD potential?
 You'd think...

2. There are some episodes on DVD
The problem is getting the rights to all of the films. Apparently it's a completely different process than getting the rights for TV.

You can, however, go out right now and buy the MST3K episode of "Manos: The Hands of Fate".

P.S. Hope you had a great holiday!

5. Does anyone know what ep...
...began with a short film of a little kid touring the Worlds Fair? The combo of that short (as the kid runs for the train: "Run, Von Ryan, Run!" As he enters something called Chemical Wonderland: "Uh oh...think we've all been there before...") and the movie, which escapes me now, I've never laughed so hard. And WORD to the Sat. AM showing. I miss the old 11pm showings on Comedy Central(?)...or was it SciFi?...

PS: Fuck Rush!

10. Neil Finn
Great New Zealand singer/songwriter who was a member of Split Enz and then founded Crowded House. He has a small, but devoted, legion of fans.

11. there are a lot of eps available for download..
at the MST3K Digital Archive Project. All are encoded to fit on one CD, and the resolution is pretty good (some artifacting/pixelization in darker scenes). If you have s-video on your computer, you can hook it up to your TV.

You can download these eps using the P2P client. There are some tricky configs required, but if anyone is interested, PM me, and when I get home this afternoon I'll send you a tutorial I put together on how to set up the client.

BTW, this apparently is done with the blessing of the good folks over at Best Brains. The only eps that aren't available are the Rhino releases, but still plenty 'o good ones to be had. I currently have about 60 eps on CD, and watch them all the time.

13. I just wish Sci-Fi could've run the old Comedy Central episodes, too.
They've been rerunning their short list of episodes a bit too long. But man, I love that show.

If you like MST3K, check out MXC on Spike TV. It's fun.
