Got a new cat
She's a girl named "Honey Bunches of Oats." My regular cat "Jesus" is curious, not hostile, wants to sniff and get close. But the new girl hisses and runs away. They are both 4 years old and fixed. She used to live in an apartment complex before, and was being stalked by this mean male cat. So I took her in when her owner moved. I live in a 1800 sqft house. She just avoids Jesus. How can I get her to warm to him. It's been two days now. She hisses at him all night long..... Any tips. They each have their own food and water bowls and their own litter boxes.

1. It just takes time
I have 4 kitties all came into the house at different ages and times. I usually takes a few weeks for everyone to settle in and learn each others likes and dislikes. Just make sure the original kittie gets lots of love and attention so she doesn't feel like she is being replaced.

Good Luck

2. Time ...
It'll take a while, but they should adjust. Honey sounds ilke she has a low threshold for stress, but calmer conditions should eventually stimulate her natural curiosity.

Charles Atlas remained invisible for weeks when we first brought him home - and his daughter pulled the same stunt several years later when they were reunited. Eventually, the beasties settle down.

3. Time, Patience, Time
Catnip and Feliway might not hurt (might not help, but might not hurt either).

(Feliway is a synthetic pheromone that helps many cats feel more chilled out. It can be used to deter territorial marking in males and also to provide a "safe" feeling space. It was recommended by a vet as an alternative to try before prozac for a neurotic cat. Looks like this is the manufacturer's site, google for lots of places to buy http://tinyurl.com/qpc9x).

5. "She just avoids Jesus"
 Taken out of context, funny as hell!

The hordes send their regards to their new cousin. Thank you for making sure kitty has a nice new home and a good life. :loveya:

Tip: see if you can keep her in a room of the house where she can get used to the other kitty's presence without any staredowns. It takes a while, but be patient. She's probably a bit rattled by the move, but she'll get her bearings. When we rescued the triplets, we kept them in a closed room for a few days with their bowls and litter, and the other two cats got used to them that way. That's not to say that everything goes smoothly all the time, but it does help the resident cats too.

6. Love the names
where are the pictures??
They will work it out. Poor HBO probably has to work through some baggage from her previous home.

Good luck and good on you for taking her in.
