8. I am.. I PAID for mine and still cannot use it
I also paid for Serif something-or-other..and I still have to cut & paste with Publisher (which I also paid for) and do my crappy little projects ..

Thank goodness for Wonk & Pastiche423 & Jen6 and the others who translate my ideas to picture form :):)

10. Mac or Win?
If win, find your Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts folder in put your .ttf (Serif thingy) in there and restart Pshop. If Mac, dunno.

4. steep learning curve
Photoshop has a steep learning curve; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Nevertheless, it's a great program and well worth the time investment.

There's a book--Easy Photoshop 6.0. (I don't think the edition of 7 is out yet). Check Que, who is the publisher. It's one of the best for beginners because it shows you how to do things step by step with pictures of each step.

12. It's actual;ly pretty simple once you get the hang of it
There's a lot of stuff you don't really need to know (or can learn later) to use it.

My advice is just focus on getting acquainted with how the basic tools and the really simple filters (like brightness and contrast) work forst and forget the more exoteric controls until you have a feel for it. One you creach that point it's fairlyu easy to learn the rest by trial and error.

and still have no idea what I am doing. I just keep playing around, then something great happens and I get all excited, then forget what I did to make the great thing happen!

15. Photoshop is hard?
I'm surprised so many people think it's hard... it's pretty darn easy.

Then again, I use it every day, and started suing it somewhere around version 1.0... I may be biased.

28. I think a lot of ppl are intimidated by the seeming complexity
But it's not as bad as it seems. Learn how to use the selection tools, learn the levels and curves and hue-saturation features, and you're almost there.

Then hold the shift key down so it resizes in proportion and grab a corner with the mouse, click on it and resize it.

20. I installed it awhile ago and used it for the first time the other day to
resize a picture of my pooch. The picture was humongous and couldn't be pasted. I simply opened the pic from my hard drive and on the menu was the option to resize it. I reduced it by 75% to the following....

That's my pooch Simba, she's three.

24. my lingering question
is it possible to just constrain the file size when resizing? i always adjust the resolution to maintain the same or close to same file size. but i have always wondered why this is not an option.
