What are your thoughts on secondary school administrators.
THe South Carolina thing has gotten me thinking how wretched most of the people in these positions are. They treat their students with contempt and even a fair amount of the teachers as well. What are your thoughts?

1. I'm lucky now
The principal and assistant principal I work for now are wonderful people. They treat all of the teachers and students fairly. I hope they stay at our school for a long time (both got their jobs after an abrupt transfer of the previous principal).

Some I've worked for in the past have been more "political" types. They made sure never to suspend or even discipline students whose parents were important in the community. They had obvious favorites among the teachers. Worst of all, they encouraged "womanless beauty pageants":( at the senior assemblies.

4. Bad by Design
We all know that most Republicans and Democrats have merged into a single party that works for corporations. We all know that law enforcement has been subverted and used by corporations to terrorize protesters. The same thing holds true for school officials and teachers unions.

The bastards have marching orders to brutalize teachers and students and give parents the middle finger. Can I prove it?

I don't have a smoking gun document that would hold up in court, but it's really very, very obvious if you study public education. I spent sixteen years working with the Seattle School District, and I was blown away by the pricks that masquerade as school officials. There are exceptions, but they're very rare - and becoming even scarcer. Good principals are being driven away and replaced with thugs. Even worse, the same thing is happening to the teaching corps. There are many teachers in the system who are working as principals' mercenaries, spies, operatives, corporate thugs.

I'm a charter member of NAPTA - the National Association for the Prevention of Teacher Abuse. If you visit their website at http://www.endteacherabuse.org , you can probably find lots of stories about abusive school administrators. Sadly, there's no similar organization attempting to protect children. I've been blowing the whistle on my websites, but I'm in the midst of a major revision right now.

If you live in a small community, you may have decent school officials. But if you live in a large city, don't bet on it. Don't be approved by their friendly demeanor and broad smiles. You'd be smiling, too, if the local chamber of commerce was puring money into your bank account.

5. Failed Teachers?
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 10:01 PM by philosophie_en_rose
I'm sure that there are fine teachers that choose to become administrators. However, there also seem to be quite a few horrible teachers that end up as admin because they can't handle an actual classroom.

They say that those who can't - teach. That's not true. Those who can't bitch about those who can.

6. Variety -
I've seen some that weren't worth the paper they were printed on; I've seen some that were tremendous - well respected by the kids, skilled at admin & teaching, know how to balance huge diverse groups (white suburbanites, poor inner-city blacks, and a bunch of Nuer refugees)....when they're good, they're very very good.....then they retire. (Hey, Dr. Thompson, I'm talking about you!)
