According to leaked documents from White House insiders, Bush planned to attach a Presidential Signing Statement to the failed Federal Marriage Amendment, in which he claimed the right of Jus primae noctis to be an "Executive Privilege."

Jus primae noctis, Latin for law (or right) of the first night, is a term now popularly used to describe the purported legal right of the lord of an estate to deflower its virgins on their wedding nights.

The Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) was a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution which would define marriage in the United States as a union of one man and one woman.

According to White House sources, it was the revelation of this document that prompted former White House Counsel Harriet Myers to resign in a fit of jealous rage.
