I asked a coworker if I should enlist... she said 'yes'.
She also said (whispered) "Wait until Bush gets out of power first." and that it would be a good experience for me. (and that nobody leaves the army physically unfit!)

So, in two years, I'll enlist. Sounds fair.

1. My little brother called me yesterday and was telling me about his new job. Then he dropped on me
that he had "enlisted" in the Army. After screaming WTF at him, he told me the details of his "enlisting" which was actually registering with the Selective Service. Whew! I then gave him the same advice, it's a great opportunity, but wait until Dubya is out of office.

2. Wait until after * AND after serious legislation...
...to make vanity/oil wars impossible.

If john mclame get is (god help us all) then expect more of the same, only this time with a short temper and angry outburts.

4. Take a look at the other branches before you make a decision.
The Air Force and Coast Guard are much easier on the troops. Second that on waiting until Smirky's gone.

5. If you're being serious, I honestly think you'd have problems.
Unless you got one of those new basic training assignments for rear-echelon personnel where they go relatively easy on the recruits, I don't see the Army as being a good fit for you. Regular basic training would probably be hell for you.

Drill sergeants are fucking dickweeds, from everything I've heard. Here, see this thread over at Something Awful: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2273799

6. Honestly, I think there's no way in hell you'd make it through basic.
AND If your health problems are as bad as your say they are, the military won't take you, even with our lowered standards.

7. i thought about volunteering for our local Army station (or whatever i is called)
glad I did not. I am supportive of the individual troops, but I wouldn't have been comfortable getting sucked into the researves, given my personal situation. I found other community service outlets, some of which i had already been involved with previously.

8. There must be other ways
to become physically fit without putting yourself in a potentially impossible (or deadly) situation for an unspecified period of time.
