It's my turn to ask for your kind wishes for my father, please

My father was taken to the hospital this morning with a hematoma bleeding in his brain. He's been on Coumadin for years for treatment for atrial fibrillation, and apparently a weak vein broke in his skull, maybe when he stumbled and fell last Thursday. He is responsive only to deep stimulus at present, and doctors can't start a procedure to drain the blood until they've thickened his blood enough to clot.

My father is a WWII veteran and holds a bronze star and a purple heart from his participation in the Battle of the Bulge. He was shot near the Rhine River as the Allies advanced, but hadn't yet crossed the river. He later participated in the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp.

My dad's been my inspiration and even though we don't see eye-to-eye in politics, his kindness and self-determination have been anchors in my life.

I've been on the phone most of today talking with my sister and brother and my mom.

If you wouldn't mind thinking an empowering thought, or passing on a prayer or a kind thought in my father's direction, I'd really appreciate it.

First, thank you all for your kind wishes. I know this online community really does care about its own.

My sister and my mom called with an update this evening. My dad still has a ventilator to breathe, but he has had his eyes open, and been responding to requests to wiggle his toes and give a thumbs-up sign. He has looked at the nurse when she's been in the room. They now have begun draining the pooled blood in his skull. The doctor said that barring a cardiac event, he is hopeful.

My brother is flying down to Florida on Wednesday, and I'm going to fly down there as well.

Please keep the empowering thoughts coming for my dad.

He needs all our help now.

You people are truly amazing. My sister said tonight that the doctors have taken out the tube with which they were draining the pooled blood. They said that there was an "old bleed" along with the new bleeding. He could have been bleeding inside for weeks. Dad is trying to write and talk (but he has a feeding tube so can't talk), but he's aware of his surroundings and who is there with him.

My sister and mom are there with him now, and my brother and I are going down there tomorrow.

I really believe that your kind wishes helped get my dad this far.

Please keep it up.
