1. we paid off our last credit card, it had airlione tickets on it and now my fridge
is making bad noises and i'm sure the cost of fixing it won't even be worth it.

2. It sometimes feels like the debt cloud is stuck over your head.
It really stinks when that happens. Hope things get better for you soon.

3. Haven't paid off my credit card, but there was an across the
board raise of the APR @ 2%, I decided to opt out, they declined, wrote customer service to renegotiate a better interest rate that what I have to offset the 2% APR raise, they declined.

Had that card since 2000, WITHOUT any late payments, oh well, have to shop around for a new credit card!!

Not taking their SHIT, have stellar credit, see ya Chase!!!!!

16. Here's my Chase story. Had a fixed APR. Apparently, they put verbage in
my statement saying they were going to raise my APR if I didn't call them.

When I noticed that my payment had gone up, I noted that the fixted 4.9%, which I had for four years, had gone up several percentage points.

I called to get it lowered back since I had NOT missed a payment or anything like that. The rep could not figure out why it had gone up, but had the nerve to try to tell me that a lot of there customers like it when they have a higher APR.

I was in the process of selling a house at that point and when I had closed after the sell and got my equity, I wrote a check to Chase after the money was deposited to my account and paid them off.

I will never have another Chase card again. What they objected to was the 4.9% that I had and looked for a way to move me out of that plan.

20. my experience was similar, my rate went up for no apparent reason
so i called and the service rep was a real asshat so i tell them i'm the account off right now at which point asshat puts me over to Sr. Asshat and the hilarity ensued--not. Every now and then i get a call from Chase "we notices you haven't used your account in 2 years" then i stop them and tell them what a horrible time i had with them and then they offer me so absurdly low interest rate which is how i got there to begin with and then i tell to stop calling me.

9. Credit Card companies don't want stellar customers. They loved indebtedness!
That's the wickedness of the credit game. They profit from your pain, not your success. It's a lose/win situation rather than a win/win. And Chase is VERY aggressive. Not very good customer service. In short, not a good bank imo.

11. I take their offers as a vote of confidence
After all, those companies wouldn't offer me huge lines of credit unless they were certain of my longterm fiscal solvency, right?

Right?

Right?

5. no, no. you're doing the right thing. things just break.
I've got a heating/cooling system on my credit cards to pay off and someday I will. Looking forward to a tax refund and that should pay off one of the cards.

8. The stuff wears out as its paid for on credit
To get ahead on things like the TV, get a used one and use it up as you hide money for the new one.
(Yes, hide. If you keep it where anyone else knows of its existence they'll try to get it spent immediately)
This isn't always possible with a furnace or medical procedure.
But for everything else, used and scrounged replacements until you have the entire cash amount for the new replacement.

24. I have one of those old fashioned solar dryers
40 feet of clothesline. That probably would be alot more work if there was more than one in my house, but my mom used to do it with seven of us.

And NEVER talk about money in front of your car!

Do you kids not know ANYTHING???

(I kid, I kid)

Sorry for your troubles, I know it sucks. But eventually you'll get to a relatively even place.

18. I know the feeling.
Used to be every time I paid off a credit card, the car would break down and it would always be something big, like the transmission. Happened every time, so that I had to use the credit card to get the stupid car fixed.

I don't own a car anymore, but I'll be paying off the last of my student loans with my income tax refund this year and I am terrified that something financially catastrophic will happen to me before the ink is dry on that check.

:scared:

19. Me too. I was finally clear of CC debt for a whole month and
kitty went into anaphylatic shock from a bee sting, costing me $1,000 in bills at the pet ER. So I'm back in debt again.

21. Tore up my credit card last summer and haven't missed it yet.
All I have is a debit card at this point which keeps me honest and within my financial bounds.

Feels good to be free!

23. Several of you referred to getting tax refunds. Read these:
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Taxes/CutYourTaxes/WhyIHateIncomeTaxRefunds.aspx

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/moneymag_archive/2005/06/01/8260922/index.htm

The IRS has a detailed Withholding Calculator. After you've received a few paychecks in 2007, you should definitely use this Calculator to decrease your withholding. Check it again later in the year and adjust accordingly. It makes NO sense to give Uncle Sam an interest-free loan of YOUR money.
