1. Cool beans, ikojo !!!
Just got back from Dierbergs in Belleville.

Friends almost had me talked into Dark Star Orchestra last night at the Pageant. Little too late for me on a school night.

Maybe we'll cross paths some day...

Wharf Rats at shows..not into the drug and alcohol scene.

Cool.

I didn't know Dark Star Orchestra was in St Louis last night. I generally don't go to shows on a "school night" (work night for moi).

One day I'll get to see them. They come to St Louis pretty regularly.

Do you ever go see Jake's Leg? Schwag?

Although, it was the SCHNUCK'S panic alarm that was sounded, I guess going to Dierberg's is just as good...did you get milk, eggs and bread?

WILL you survive the SNOW?

3. I recall you saying you hung w/ the rats
way back when in the early days of the *other* GD forum here at DU.

People have told me DSO plays St.Louis all the time, so that was my reasoning, too. First week of school (I teach so it was really a worknight for me to) always leaves me pretty crispy anyhow w/out getting back home a 2 AM.

Before I moved to Louisiana in '95 from Springfield, MO, I did several shows as acoustic opener w/ Jake's Leg at Regency there and at Cicero's, I think it was, in St. Louie. Do they still play? Bear fronts' em, right? I just moved up here last spring to start teaching and I guess I'm kind of surprised to hear that they are still rolling. Wow.

Yep. I bet we have some stories....

Maybe I should use this picture instead of the waving smiley....

4. Yes, Jake's Leg is still playing after all these years
They had a THIRTIETH anniversary show at the Pageant over Thanksgiving weekend. I found out that the VP of Human Resources at my workplace was there. She was looking for me but I was in Springfield visiting family.

I think Jake's Leg plays at Cicero's every Friday beginning at 10PM.

The Schwag plays at some bar on the South Side.

Did you ever see Blue Dixie...now they were the best. They did Dead covers as well as originals. I miss them. I had a lot of fun seeing them.

6. Indeed I do remember them
They had a curly headed guitar player that was smoking, right? Facing stage, we was to the left?

If I'm thinking clearly and that's the band, I saw them in Springfield too.

Wow. It's must be 13-14 years since I saw them, roughly 91-93 sounding right? They split up around then, if the brain is still ticking correctly...

I miss the batshit crazies who run to gather supplies every time there's a hint of snow in the forecast.

BTW, are you sure it's going to snow? The fact that they predicted it means that it surely won't happen. Hell, it'll probably be 70 and sunny tomorrow. :)

8. I think it is so funny how people around here
FREAK OUT over the POSSIBILITY of snow! I mean it's not like it doesn't snow at least once a winter.

JC Corchoran, a local DJ, plays a siren on air when snow has been forecasted...it is so funny.

Yeah, I know the weather bots around here like to show off all their expensive toys when snow is in the forecast. I guess it justifies the weather budget to the powers that be at the TV station.

Last week they told us we would get two to three inches of ice. Events were cancelled, people stayed home but the temperatures on Sunday stayed too warm (thankfully) for the rain to turn to ice.

I had to drive in on Friday from the NE part of the state through that awful ice storm, but it got better as I approached St. Louis. Then I had to mentally prepare myself to go back through similar conditions on Monday, but yeah, it was a whole lot of nothing. I remember days during elementary school when the weather forecast was so bad for the following day that they'd cancel school the afternoon before it was scheduled to hit. Then, of course, the temperature would spike twenty degrees. Another time, we were going to a field trip to the zoo in late April, and it got snowed out. Oy.

Guess it's just the ol' Arch Effect. ;)

10. you'd think it never snows in St. Louis
based on how people react. It's ridiculous.

Of course, for a place that's not in a desert, it utterly amazes me how much traffic is affected by rain.

I first started driving in Germany, where it rains seemingly ALL the time...if people there freaked out every time the roads got wet, no one would ever get anywhere. Makes St. Louisans seem like...complete nuts.

12. St Louisans are crazy when it comes to any
precipitation.

I like snow, even though it means my beloved scooter must stay in the garage ALONE. I get tired of looking forward to significant snow only to wake up and see dark streets.

11. You want to see a TV event...
South Dakota during tornado-producing thunderstorms.

I've seen more than one entire EVENING of all-new prime-time shows overridden by the guys with the Doppler radars and vortici-sensitive sensors and whatnot. They jump all over the state, zooming in and out over tens of thousands of square miles of prairie, going as far down as street-by-street, givng constant updates as thunderstorm cells and tornados move. Wind speeds, projected storm paths, timelines, all right there to look at.

Which networks do this, you ask? CBS? ABC? NBC? Fox? UPN? WB?

ALL OF THEM!!!

And, dammit, we watched them because WE might be in the crosshairs if we tuned out for a half-hour! :-)

14. Oh gods, not that shit again, good thing I did my gocery shopping earlier today...
You want to know what's messed up, the freezer is STILL empty after spending a shitload of money at the store, what with being out of power for 3 days during the ice storm.
