So I just saw Crash for the first time....
It makes me wonder how someone would come up with all the linear paths that intersect and then veer off in another direction only to double back in on themselves...

I marveled at how the writers kept the coincidences believable by making them geographical instead of personality driven...

And then, allowing the characters to speak and behave in a very believable way...

Nothing seemed contrived...

Nothing seemed forced...

A brilliant American Film...

1. I concur
I thought the car rescue scene was terribly moving. It puts a whole new spin on who people really are.

That movie is an experience that everyone should have.

2. It's not just about prejudice but about honor and duty and
how they all play upon each other...

I teared up at least five time...

The magical cape thread got to me so that I was almost sobbing....

Although let's hope the father tells her the truth...

BTW, that's why I thought it was so great...

19. I cried too but
it was far from the Best Movie of last year. I can't believe it won the Best Picture Oscar in perhaps one of the best years for film in recent memory.

There have been other films that have tackled the same subject in a much better fashion.

The action and dialog is easily believable, but the characters are caricatures.

13. I didn't get that....
I thought they were all believable...

But I can see that having such a large cast would make it hard hard to breath something fresh into each character...

18. Let's take the Matt Dillon character
You could say that his rant to the insurance worker and the car stop scene were pretty caricaturey. But then what about the accident twist? That sure ain't part of the first caricature. The part I liked is that they took someone and presented them like a caricature and then twisted it all around.

34. Yeah, that's the point I think
That's what happens when we don't look past prejudices, all we see are caricatures. As we get the glimpses of people's private lives, then the caricatures start to break down and we start to see the complexity of the human condition.

It was a great movie.

37. It's not *my* forum, but here's the link
It's just the Propaganda Forum started a while ago. I started an Obama thread in that forum because it would be nice to not see pure garbage posted over and over like it was in 2003. We could just say 'check the Debunker before you post'. That would cut a lot of garbage and a lot of flame wars, seems to me.

Of course, your suggestion is the perfect place to legitimize fact from fiction.
I know some prefer the limelight of the ostensible warrior, but then we're not talking
about conversation aimed at debating facts.

I fully appreciate this forum but wonder why it's not in the forum listings check list?

Thanks again, for the timely response.

10. I enjoyed it, but I
actually thought SOME of the dialogue seemed contrived. I'm just not sure many people actually speak that way to one another, like the woman who imitated the Chinese woman's manner of speaking to the Chinese woman's face and how Sandra Bullock's character--angry and afraid as she was--went all racist rant in front of strangers. I did enjoy the movie overall, though.

she was angry, scared and in shock.
She was also a total snob who had pushed down all the best parts of herself

26. Crash is a great, great film
I just watched it again last week and was moved by it, especially the crash scene between Thandie Newton and Matt Dillon.

I thought "Good Night And Good Luck" was the better film and should have won the Oscar for best picture, but that's just me.

I loved the complexity of it... how everything you see in the beginning is turned on its head by the end... you end up reluctantly liking who you despised and being disgusted with who you initially liked.

31. I agree
which is why I stayed out of the discussions that followed the Oscars saying that Crash was an inferior picture to several of the others nominated. You have to have an incredible talent keeping track of so many diverse scenarios--in my novel, I have only 5 major characters, and it's been a bitch trying to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be.

I liked the ending. When the Iranian American daughter ..it turns out..works the night shift at the hospital. So why she filled her father's gun with blanks. I missed that the first time I saw it. So many characters to follow. And I'm not good with faces.
