Happy Birthday to Dolly Parton!
61 today! I prefer the earlier, plumper Dolly; too thin, too much plastic surgery nowadays...

I LOVE Dolly.

Check this old tape of her, pre-stardom and surgeries, she's so pretty and sweet- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpzLnKD4-XI

4. We LOVE Dolly in this house.
I hope I get to see her perform live some day soon. I hear sometimes she changes the lyrics of "Joleen" and sings "Drag Queen" instead.

Right after 9/11, we saw her on Austin City Limits. We cried until we couldn't cry no more. "Coat of Many Colors" to this day still gets to me.

5. I cried, like a little baby
I saw her live a couple years ago at 9:30 Club in DC and I LOST IT, at like four different songs, it was too much for me.
And last week a got a live dvd of her, which is great, she rocked, but the audience is all sitting down, like boring, they should have taped the show I saw, the audience was so into it.

6. I've missed her the past few times she's come to NYC.
When she swings by the next time, I've promised myself and my guy we will be there. People who have gone just rave about her live shows.

7. Boxcar Willie wrote a song named "Freightliner Fever"
At the end Willie is talking about passing country music singers on the road in his truck.
His lyrics say:

wow, there goes dolly:
got two buses.
boy, i'd like to be her driver.

11. I've never been a fan of maudlin C&W sentiment, but her original of
"I Will Always Love You" beats Whitney Houston's cover any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
