Not just because Beaverhausen will hate me if I do, because I like her. But Lord God Almighty have mercy on my tortured soul, what in the Hell do these kids think they're doing at the auditions?!?

All I've seen were the excerpts on Keith Olbermann and Joe Scarborough. Maybe some of those kids didn't deserve to be smacked down so hard by the judges, but they were beyond horrific. Even after all the past seasons, even after watching all the tone-deaf wannabes being given a harsh dose of reality by Simon Cowell, these nitwits eschew whatever real talents they may actually possess and embarrass their friends and communities by trying to compete! And they're awful!

If I was still playing the American Idol auditions as a drinking game, I would not be taking swigs of Southern Comfort. Instead, I would be drowning myself in absinthe. And I don't think anyone here on DU wants to see that.

I think American Idol may have finaly jumped the shark. But what do I know? Next year, they might roar back with even higher ratings than before as the kids watch to see the next round of vocal train wrecks making their pitiful grabs at the elusive brass ring called fame.

Maybe I do need a drink, after all. But I'll be good. I promise.

1. I do have to add...

Some of the kids on that show had a little talent. A couple of them even impressed me and moved me. But I'm beginning to think that any serious vocalist is wasting his or her talent by competing on that show.
