Well, my first day back at school mostly didn't suck.
Good things were that all my teachers seem cool, none of my classes are very far apart, I didn't have to deal with waitlisted classes this time around and I managed to get most of my books used.

The big downside of the day? Books and a trip to the office supply store set me back almost $400! :wow: :scared:

6. Ours ought to have been canceled for weather and climate control drama.
It was 28 this morning. My first class I was freezing in three shirts, a hoodie and my coat. Last class in the same building, I guess they finally had the heater working because I was sweltering in my tank top.

2. What are waitlisted classes?
And I'm happy for you. I'm thinking about going back to school.

4. Instructors set a cap on the number of enrolled students
Once enrollment gets to that number, any further enrollees go on the waitlist and have to see if somebody drops the class or no-shows and they can take their slot.

Last semester I had two or three waitlisted classes. This time, because I was a returning student and got to sign up for classes ahead of the new people, I don't have any.

7. I'll be damned. I'm on one.
It's a class offered by my local CC. My ex-niece-in-law put me on a list and will call me if A) someone drops out, and B)she can find a replacement for the teacher that dropped out. I'm not holding my breath. It's a class about how to use ebay. DON'T LAUGH!

No classes today but butt-loads of meetings and prep. I teach an 8:00 AM tomorrow that I have to start prepping for about 6:00. Ugh.

5. Oh yuck.
Make sure to give yourself extra time to scrape the ice off your car. Lousy Smarch weather. :(

10. College bookstores are a rip-off. I remember looking at the price of a "used" textbook once ...
... and thinking "Hey! That's not right!" When I looked up the publisher's price, I found the recommended list price for new copies of the textbook was only about 2/3 of what the bookstore was charging for used copies ... :grr:

11. LM, return those books ASAP!
You can probably pick them up used off Amazon.com or Barnesandnoble.com for much, MUCH cheaper. I saved almost $120 this semester doing that.

12. I looked. It really wasn't any cheaper. The anthro books are pricey.
I'll look again, maybe there are better deals now.

13. Check both. Or, hell, I'll do it for ya.
I don't have any homework tonight. Just drop me your textbook titles.

14. Okay, I checked Amazon
Only the anthro books were cheaper than getting them used at school, but two of those were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper. Luckily I can take those back and order them. But I'll check at BN first.

15. half.com is also good for cheap textbooks...
Once in a while, for rarer, more scholarly books, prices are higher, but I found cheap copies of almost all of my entry-level textbooks and a good number of my upper-level stuff, too.
