It's on ABC tonight. We missed the first fifteen minutes. Could someone kindly fill us in what happened in the opening scene?

Lost paperwork? Lost passport?

2. To my memory, the president of his country was assassinated
and there was huge civil unrest, so they weren't letting anyone in or out. Something like that, anyway. But of course it was a fictional country and fictional war... just made up to keep Mr. Hanks from being able to return to his country or to leave the airport to travel in another country.
