Woo hoo! I picked up my new car!
I am so proud. Licence plate obscured to protect the innocent. ;)

I love the seats:

For the petrolheads! This is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, 16-valve turbo plant. It develops 200bhp and will take the car to 147mph. Not that I will ever drive it that fast. Might be fun to try it on the Autobahn when I go to Germany in July though. :D

I think the green brake calipers are a nice touch:

1. Very nice indeed!
The Octavia is a great car and the sporty model you've got looks like a real street racer. You'll have huge fun in that.

Skoda has come a hell of a long way since VW got involved with them.

8. Hi Bunny!
I haven't really tried it out yet - in fact all I have done is take it to the store on the way home from the dealer. :D

I am fighting the urge to take it up to my Mum's right now - but there are things I really should do at home today.

18. I recently saw in a copy of "Car" magazine that there are a LOT of cars you can get
in the UK that you can't get in the US.

A shame, your Skoda looks cool like a hot machine.

31. The reverse is also true of course, my friend
Each market, Europe and North America, are making cars largely for themselves. There is some exporting and importing going on, but not every model gets offered. Skoda are a Czech maker under the VW umbrella. I know VW sell in America, but as I understand it the American VWs are built in Mexico, not Germany.

It is proving to be a very capable motorway car. :D

19. Awesome looking car! I was looking at the Skoda site, and noticed
the car was available with either the gas ("petrol") or diesel engine. Is there a reason why you chose the gas? I know you guys pay a fortune for fuel in the U.K. I'm a Honda loyalist, and can't wait until they bring their diesel to the North American market (supposedly under 2 years)...

33. Yeah, the diesel didn't seem quite fitting
I know modern turbodiesel engines are extremely good, but there still seems something a little...odd...about a diesel GTI.

Plus the diesel version of the Octavia vRS is only 170bhp compared with the 200bhp of the petrol one. :D

43. Diesels do have a totally different sound and feel - I know the
gas has a higher level of horsepower, and I looked at the catalog which listed its 0-100 kph time as 7.3 seconds, 1.2 seconds faster than the diesel. VW engineers are doing amazing things with the TDI, though - a TDI-powered Audi won the LeMans 24-hour race last year, after it had won the Sebring 12-hour event last spring. The car was amazingly quiet compared to the other race cars. I can't blame you for opting for the gas engine - 7.3 seconds is damn impressive, for a reasonbly sized 4-door sedan with a 4 cylinder engine. Happy motoring!

I don't know the car-waxing secret. It's probably in the final polishing and there may be a tool that give it the professional finish. Maybe?
