Back home from hernia repair surgery
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 11:33 AM by Lurking_Argyle
The pain has kicked in.

Surgery went in textbook order. Came back yesterday evening. My throat is still hoarse from being intibated. Got the pain pills. I've got an ice pack and pillow from the hospital. I have a roughly 5" cut, that's glued together. (OMG! I'm glued together, like clothing. )

Can't walk fast--I walk with a limp. Can't lift heavy things. Can't go back to work, yet. Can't cough, can't laugh. Don't feel like eating. Daytime TV sucks. I can get up and down steps, slowly. I have my walking staff. (all that renfest garb and accessories come in handy.) I don't have my endurance. Walking, sitting, and standing are limited.

I've hit the upper limit, gotta rest. :hi:

P.S. Enjoy the photos in the renfest threads. :)

2. Get lots of rest
I forced things after major surgery years ago and will pay for the rest of my life.

Glad things went well.

5. Wrong position
my hernia (inguinal) was too low, close to the leg crease, and I had a fluid sac in the way. My brother did have the laparoscopic option.

6. Do not rush yourself to get better.
Healing from a big cut like that takes time. Take however long your body needs.

I had the laproscopic operation for five hernias, it took me a full week to get back to about 80%, and I am in good shape. Cuts take much longer.

9. If you rest, things will improve pretty fast. I assume
the surgical techniques have improved in the past 30 years or so. I had it done when I was 12...have a 5 1/2" scar to show for it.

12. Hope you feel better soon
I just saw your thread in the Exercise & Fitness group yesterday. Do you like reading?

I saw that you practice Tai Chi - maybe one of these days you'll feel like you can do some gentle movement. (Or at least now you can think about it.)

Sending you healing thoughts. Hope you feel better soon. Surgery is no fun!
