Wow, I'm making the rounds. This week alone I've made the Deseret News Readers' Forum TWICE and now today made the Salt Lake Tribune's Public Forum.
My letter was in reply to this one that ran yesterday:
Vietnam lesson The anti-war, anti-administration chorus needs to be reminded of the lessons they should have learned from Vietnam.
We did not lose the war in Vietnam because of Vietnamese military superiority; we lost the war because of the anti-war, anti-military voices showing disunity in the United States. Thus they encouraged the Viet Cong to continue fighting while at the same time they were discouraging and disparaging our servicemen, political leaders and civilians.
Liberals, are you going to lead us to another ignominious defeat in Iraq?

My reply:
Bogus war How dare DeLamar Gibbons chastise antiwar protesters for the failure we know as the Vietnam War ("Vietnam lesson," Forum, July 31)?
It was in fact the inept leadership of our presidents that plagued the war and subsequently left us with thousands dead. The protesters only wanted the troops home because they were sick of seeing them dying.
Let me also ask Mr. Gibbons if he's even seen war firsthand. My father fought in Vietnam and every single day suffers from the hell it caused. He was also vehemently opposed to this unjust war in Iraq. So were a lot of Vietnam veterans.
Is Mr. Gibbons saying they're the reason Bush lied to the American people; they're the reason thousands of Iraqis are dead; they're the reason troops are dying almost daily? I don't think so. My father opposes this bogus war because he fought in a bogus war. Is he wrong?
