3. It's pretty, for sure, but hell to drive in.
I had to leave my car around the corner and halfway down the block. I couldn't make it up the really steep part of the street leading to the little street I live on.

13. Yeah, Seattle is built on glacial ridges.
When it snows and freezes, they have to close off a lot of the side streets, because if people tried to drive up or down them, it would be like doing on a suicide run. :scared:

16. I used to drive a municipal bus in Gloucester MA.
I got causght in an icestorm one night driving back to the garage. I had to come around a narrow corner going downhill. I shit my pants as the rear of the bus swerved all over the road. Have no idea how I corrected it, but I did.

It's headed this way by Sunday and it won't be snow, it will be ice they say.

26. About 4 inches so far, and still snowing, though not so heavily.
Seattle doesn't get a lot of snow, but it wrecks havoc when it does so here. In many areas, you either live on top of, on the side of, or at the bottom of a hill.

the town would be shut down for a while

then the nuts would be on the roads (me too)

then it would melt

It sure is pretty though!

36. ROFL!
some of them don't get around as well as a car with front wheel drive

but some SUV's can probably get around well there. I wouldn't want one in a city. I wouldn't want one because of the gas waste, etc. either really.

Unless it was a smaller one.

Of course we have a van, but it gets 27 mpg- still costs a small fortune to fill.

40. What really gets to me is when they start driving wrecklessly.
I was trying to make my way down a very steep hill earlier this evening, and everyone was going very slow. Then the idiot in the SUV behind me decided to pass people (mind you, this was on a two way street, one lane each way). Just as he got beside me, he started losing control of the vehicle. He damned near hit me and the oncoming car in the lane he was in.

:grr:

Lots and lots of people on their way home from work, or on their way to an evening job, like MrSG. Normally, if the snow starts late evening, lots of folks just stay home.

are about our only minority! But they're a very small group. A few really good guys work at the same school as the STBE. The only problem I have is that STBE keeps coming home and telling me that we're too easy on our daughter and he wants to arrange her marriage, as Shashi plans to do for his two daughters. I don't think he's kidding.

Are you waiting for your marriage to be arranged or do you get to pick your own wife? Or are you gay? I never even asked.

on edit: I think perhaps the last part was too personal. I'm drinking a glass of wine and that means I may commit an indiscretion. Don't answer if it's too much.

55. Luckily, I was at home
when my car died; I was pulling out of my parking space in the evening when it happened, but it was blocking the alley. Some people from my building helped me to shovel the snow and push it out of the way but I had to get it up and running for the next day, so I got a boost (which didn't do any good, unfortunately. It wasn't just the battery as I suspected).

People are usually pretty helpful when it's this cold and someone needs help with their car. It could be them soon.

In the past couple of days, 3 people here in Alberta have died of exposure after their car broke down. :-(

58. Three people? Whoa!
During the big wind storm in December, we had a lot of people die, or get very ill from carbon monoxide poisoning. Mostly people from Asian countries. Apparently, as I understand it, the ventilation is different in their homes over there than it is here. In those homes, they can use barbeques, etc. to warm themselves, but not here. It was so sad. 4 members of one family died (the fifth was away at college), another family of 7 plus some guests all had to be taken to the hosptial for carbon monoxide poisoning.

62. That is so very sad
:(

In our last deep freeze, two people died from carbon monoxide poisoning. They were homeless, and staying in a old bus that they heated with a propane heater. They needed 3 or 4 days to thaw out the bodies before the autopsies, they were frozen stiff. :(

We have a lot of homeless people in my city, some were trying to ride the cold out in tents. Temporary shelters were opened, but it's not enough. Even being out in that weather for an hour was hellish, I can't imagine having to live like that.

63. Well, at least they were somewhat correct....:)
Our weathermen out here, are about the same, a lot of hit/miss...but with our last ice/snow storm, they were about 99.9% correct....

80. I miss snow!!!
I live in Northeast PA and we have had none at all this winter. In fact we haven't even had a winter. The temps have been in the 40's and 50's sometimes even the 60's all winter. It sucks.
