Poll question: Another snowstorm in Seattle: Did we offend the deity?
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 09:05 PM by JulieRB
Okay, I want to know what we did to make whatever higher power you might believe in mad at us. It's snowing again in Seattle. There was another windstorm earlier in the week that did MORE damage to the area. The temps over the next two days have lows in the teens, with a windchill of less than zero.

I need to find something to do while we're stuck in the house yet again. Got any suggestions?

Julie
it's a whiteout, at least in Duvall...Be careful out there!

2. I'm not in Seattle, but
I voted for take the cats outside and watch them freak out. We don't have much snow in northern Minnesota, but we're supposed to have below zero temps, not including wind chill this weekend. The high yesterday was 14, if it makes you feel any better.

3. Just made it home.
a 25 minute drive took 2 and a half hours.

I was slip sliding all over the road. What a fucking stressfull experience!

From Issaquah on I90 all the way to Crossroads in Bellevue, I didn't once make it out of 2nd gear.

The eastside is a nightmare right now.

5. I am so glad that you and Mojambo made it home safely
DH just went down to Safeway off Big Rock and 203 to rescue our friend. She couldn't get her car up the hill, and was hoofing it, which scared the crap out of me. He also had the added benefit of giving a neighbor a lift to our development as well.

This particular neighbor has been nasty to both of us since we moved in. I was pretty proud of DH for doing him a kindness and not rubbing his nose in it.

We have several inches of snow at this point; it's still snowing like mad.

I'm the world's cheapest date.
Actually, our ISP went down for several hours. I'd make a joke here about hookers and a Star Trek convention, but it would be unsportsmanlike.

9. Hi SG, I saw and yup, it looks like snow.
While it has been fun having snow, I am really tired of the wind. Am staying home tomorrow to avoid wrecking another car (am still dickering with insurance co about after the last bit of snow/ice).

We had fun with this, and we'll take more tomorrow in daylight. The greenbelt in our backyard is unbelievable right now.

Casa del RB in the snow. Contrary to popular belief, we were both sober when the photo was taken, and the house isn't really crooked...

A tree in the front yard of our house.

11. This is just outrageous considering Seattle is known for
it's great weather! ;)

Hey, if it's any consolation, even in California:

... Coldest temperatures since December 1998 expected in downtown
Sacramento...

A surge of cold Arctic air is expected to give the Sacramento area
the coldest temperatures since December 1998. Below freezing minimum
temperatures are forecast for downtown Sacramento from Friday
morning... through the weekend... with 30 on Friday... 25 on
Saturday... 27 on Sunday and 30 on Monday. Outlying areas will be
even colder with lows likely to dip into the upper teens to low
20s Saturday morning. A minimum temperature of 27 degrees or lower
would tie or break the current record low of 27 degrees set in 1963
for January 13th in downtown Sacramento.

I went to the store for beer and didn't realize the brakes on my bike could get frozen.. I owe the neighbor a new paint job on his car now. And I broke my glasses.

14. Surprisingly enough, we got a foot
Luckily, DH's off work this week, and I work from home. We wouldn't be going out even if we had to go to the office.

>It doesn't take much to completely paralyze that city.<

I have to agree. The area is so hilly that it's difficult with ice and snow, but most of the natives typically don't get a lot of practice driving in it, either. This storm is particularly treacherous because of the very low temps involved and the ice layer underneath the powder snow that fell last night.

27. Dude, - I'm
a) Not stuck in my house. I've been working half-days this week. And,

b) currently suffering from pneumonia. I sound like the bastard child of Janis Joplin and Elmer Fudd. If I'm at home I'm going to be doing a lot of sleeping interspersed with sucking down hot, lemony beverages, reading of e-mail and posting to internet fora.

17. Pat Robertson said you have some of those gays there
and that's why it's snowing so much.

So, I vote for drink and watch Top Chef. Make a drinking game out of it. Everytime someone makes a foam or something, you have to chug. ;)

24. You're kidding! The gay people are responsible for this?
;-)

Interestingly enough, there are several state representatives introducing a bill in our Legislature to make same-sex marriage legal in Washington State. Do you think there's a connection?

>Everytime someone makes a foam or something, you have to chug.<

Good God in Heaven, when will Marcel finally get kicked off that show? I am soooooo tired of his incessant "foams". If we were chugging everytime he said something annoying, we'd run out of alcohol!

25. They're coming more quickly now
I expect another catastrophic storm of some sort by next week! :woohoo: :eyes: I think this one's even more fun than the one you were here for. More snow. More ice. More people who've abandoned their cars in many, many more inappropriate places.

I want to know why the entire Eastern Seaboard decided to send their winter weather here. Don't they LIKE the snow there?

In the meantime, did you read that one of the boneheaded school districts here does not want to show "An Inconvenient Truth" without a rebuttal of some sort? Unbelievable!

34. We were discussing that at work yesterday
All people from an evil "Big Pharma" - not exactly a hotbed of radical thought

We were trying to figure out how anyone can suggest that there are "two sides" to the facts about global warming and call actual photos of the changes at Glacier National Park, Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Polar Ice Cap became "left wing propaganda".

It's kind of like saying there's two sides to the statement that the earth is round now that we have pictures from space to prove it.

Hope you and hubby and the cats are snuggled up inside, and hope your electricity/internet access stays on, at least.

Enjoy our weather for us...I'm off to Minneapolis and San Fran next week - we were joking about packing shorts for the Minneapolis trip

Like, bead a bracelet. Do a few rows of knitting. Write some thank you notes for your xmas presents.

Here's what I did: I planted fresh lemon seeds in a little potting soil. Let's hope I get one to sprout.
