I know many around here don't like the Royals...but
I loved Princess Diana. I sobbed when she died. I even got up early for her funeral. She was my age and it was easy for me to understand how you could be married to someone you didn't really like.
Anyway...I think she would be proud of her sons.
They seem like decent men...inasmuch as they can be with the lives they have had to lead.
I know most don't like seeing the royal engagement watch...but it takes me back in time to the wedding...and I know that if Wills and Kate get married...then I will watch the wedding with the same excitement as I did as when his Mother caught her Prince.

1. I like the Royals.
They've made some good off-season moves and should be much improved.

2. I've hated the Royals since 1994, right after they fired Hal McRae
and went on strike. Oh, wait. ;)

3. I only like watching inbreds when they're feuding with their neighbors
I know, I know... Very rude of me.

4. Couldn't have cared less about Diana.
The Queen strikes me as rather classy though. Particularly the stint as a truck mechanic.

The Princes? Don't know much nor care. Especially about the one that dressed up as a Nazi.

6. Royals???
Haven't they become a minor league club for all the major league teams?

12. I've had a warm fuzzy feeling for them since last fall
when they beat Detroit 3 in a row at the end of the season and gave the Central Division Championship to the Twins. It was heartwarming to hear the chant of "Let's go Royals" in the Minneapolis Metrodome that last day of the season.

7. ITA. I love England, have visited many times, taught Brit Lit, LOVE the Royals!
I'd rather an honest monarchy than the creepy illegally-installed Bush Dynasty.

18. Yep, at least a king or queen
is polite enough to say they are, instead of an "elected" official deciding they have those powers!

They almost make the Bush family seem like ideal people!

11. QEII is not the woman she was back in the day when she "got" the people.
But otherwise, what's so terrible about having living links to an ancient and illustrious heritage?

16. ancient heritage?
my English relatives call the Windsor family the "German immigrants". I think Americans are more fascinated with the family than the English are. Ironic, given Americans were supposed to be the anti-monarchists from the Founding Fathers onwards.

21. Diana had more ancient connections than Charles.
Through his grandfather on his mother's side, Prince William is descended from both the Duke of Grafton and the Duke of Richmond, two illegitimate sons of King Charles II of England and King James II of England, through an illegitimate daughter. William, should he become King, would be the first monarch since Queen Anne to be a direct descendent of Charles I of England.

9. I too cried when she died. Heck, I got up at 4 am to watch her wedding
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 08:45 PM by Beaverhausen
I don't know why I am interested in the royals, but I am. I did like Diana and the good works she was doing. Her death was a terrible loss.

On edit: I too will be watching this current "engagement" with much interest.

10. I'm with you -- I have to admit my interest in a possible engagement
She looks like a beautiful girl and, at 25 (actually a few months OLDER than William!), I hope she'll be better able to handle the hoopla than Diana was at only 19.

14. My great-grandparents hated the British royals
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 08:54 PM by nam78_two
They were involved in India's struggle for freedom and often saw the British Royal Family as a symbol of many things they hated the most in the way the British treated the Indians. They had a reputation of being extraordinarily racist apparently. Thats mostly hearsay, though I don't find it hard to believe.

15. Au contraire. My Irish buddies and I used to line the streets. . .
as Bonny Prince Charlie and his Blushing Bride drove by and, in unison, we'd shout words of encouragement:

"Up Chuck, and Di! Up Chuck, and Di!"

Can't imagine where you'd get the idea a strong proponent of democracy such as I wouldn't do my best to make a ridiculous anachronism feel as they should.

22. I grew in in KC when we had the A's
so I never really dug the Royals, sorry.

I miss Municipal Stadium and wonder how those guys who live around there survive without parking cars in their yards.

23. I prefer L'Roi du Burger
Oh wait, that's Royale...

I haven't thought much of any British Monarch since Henry V, and that's probably due to Shakespere's PR.......

Actually, there's some good to be had separating your head of state and head of government.

didn't we kick their asses out of this country a couple centuries ago? They are an anachronism that costs their subjects a ton of money. Off with their heads.
