Do you worry that if you find happiness in your life and will become addicted to it?
Meaning you won't want things to become unhappy again, or even external factors turning a happy thing (including a job situation) into a bad one?

Or do you even question yourself to determine if your newfound happiness is legitimate? (my counselor today basically told me today to stay where I am and envisioned where I am currently studying as a side-job only and reiterated that it's difficult to find any job that pays well (charming...)... even though they're trying to get rid of us, I'm burnt out in the field - not that there's anything left in IT that won't be shoved overseas anyway (it's not indolence or stupidity; I've been learning for years to advance, which amounts for sod all, it seems...)

1. Well, there are times when I fear becoming unhappy
to such an extent that I fear I'll MAKE myself unhappy worrying about it. Which stresses me out.

I've been to some very low points - low enough to be suicidal and frightened of losing my mind and never finding it again. And now I actually have found a really good place mentally. It's sometimes hard for me not to sabotage it by worrying about going down again.

And I've questioned the happiness thing, too. It's wierd to be so unsure about emotions that one doesn't know it they're real or not. This period has lasted long enough for me that I am sure but I still have to tamp down the worry that it will end.

2. I'd still like to see how they're gonna..
replace a motherboard, fiber channel cable, hard drive or RAM from overseas... I'd also see what theyr'e gonna do when someone locks out all remote logins.

3. That's assuming the US will remain.
Our country is unique in its road structure. It's not as easy to replace all the private roadways with public ones.

Corporations are also known for ditching anything that loses profitability.

If peak oil is correct, the US is going to become really unprofitable within a few years.

And the countries our corporate entities are moving into already have more logical forms of transport.

Also consider this to be the ultimate in tinfoilhattedness as we're still seeing development in America. Albeit mostly retail, but even the elite running retail would know better than to keep adding stores in America when they'd be rendered a big-ass tax writeoff (assuming they pay taxes) in a mere 5~10 years.

I don't wholly believe that scenario either, but negative-minded as I am, it sure is fun to contemplate.

5. I hate it when people say this to me... but you think too much.
Happiness is a good thing. If you've got it, enjoy it.

If you're worried about losing your job, stow away your nuts (money) for winter (lean times).

If you're smart enough for IT, you're smart enough to make a living anyway!

6. Another word about gloom and doom
When I was young, the gloom and doom predictions abounded, just like today. The year 2000 seemed an eternity away (as did 1984), so it was the magic date when most species of wildlife would be dead, there would be no drinkable water, and no breathable air.

When I graduated college everybody was saying my generation wouldn't find jobs. They continually told us we'd never live the standard of living our parents enjoyed, yet we found jobs, and our standard of living far exceeded our parents'.

It might really all come crashing down someday, but never live in fear of it. The gloom and doom crowd have been around since the Dark Ages. Thy'll be ringing our death knells for generations to come, with no idea that they're just repeating the same negativism that didn't come true for past generations.

Live your own life, and be optimistic.
