Huh? I heard this from my daughter's friend. I tried snopsing it but couldn't find anything. This can't be true can it? I thought it would be 50%.

3. Yes. Sounds like grade-A bs
The theory surrounding the Androstendione Theory on Homosexuality (that a baby "becomes" homosexual when a significant amount of androstendione either surges on a female fetus, or wanes on a male fetus.) has nothing to do with the sex of a baby - the two are not even correlated.

By the time the surge happens, the child's sex has already been determined.

7. Maybe not
I posted this later on, but wanted to point out here also, that aroun 50% of babies born to anyone are male. So this could be sound statistics, just meanigless.

8. But the percentage in question was 80%, not 50%

:silly: :dunce:

I read it as 50% the first time, I swear.

80%? Yeah, that's a huge steaming pile of CRAP! there is no way that is possible nor is there any way that someone in the past 6-8 years funded a study of this kind.

2. It's all about what sperm wins out.
Not with the sexuality of the mother.

4. That would explain
why so many toasters get taken apart and aren't put back together.

12. I would think it would be the other way around since male sperm
swim faster than female. Unless, of course, the "assist" is timed to happen just before ovulation so that by the ovum is there the male sperm have died off, leaving the field clear for the slower swimming female sperm.

Or is that theory no longer scientifically supported? I am no scientist, so I wouldn't know...

14. male sperm are faster but the female ones are hardier.
After conception females have a higher survival rate too, especially when prematurity or another complicating factor is involved.

As a general rule young people tend to have slightly more male babies and older people more female ones. As one generally doesn't see very young lesbians having kids, I suspect births to lesbian mothers, if they were at all different from typical statistics, would tend toward females due to somewhat older mothers than average and use of reproductive technology.

Timing could be used to change that, as you mentioned, but people using donor sperm tend to time at or very near ovulation and backing off to the edge of sperm viability to increase chances of conceiving a boy would also increase chances of not conceiving at all, which is why Dr Shettles, the fellow who came up with the method, discouraged attempting to time for a boy if there was a reproductive issue that would complicate the already reduced chances of conception when timing for a boy. Since it'd be harder for a lesbian couple using donor sperm to just try again next month than it would be for a potential mother with a ready supply of sperm on the opposite end of the bed, I doubt it goes on much. Sperm donation would lend itself well to microsort though, where the sperm is spun to separate heavier female sperm from lighter male ones. I suspect most people just want to be parents and will take what chance gives them, unless a potential genetic defect or something provides a reason to feel otherwise.

13. This may come from Jess Wells, but the number is wrong.
She claims (in "Lesbians Raising Sons") that lesbians have a 65% chance of having sons. I'm not sure where she gets the numbers, though.

(My moms hit an even 50-50 split!)
