Do you ever wonder if you are just really talking to your computer and it is generating pretend people trying to fool you into thinking you are interacting with others?

It could be Bill Gates way of taking over our minds, make us all think we are flirting, talking, planning, etc. with others, when really we are just talking to our computer?

We indeed move on, especially given that we only see the words that another individual types. How can we know what a person truly intends without meeting them?

Let me add in a point from communication studies that I think applies here: apparently we misinterpret 80% of a person's intent when we view their words online. On the phone, we misinterpret 50% of that person's intentions because we cannot see their facial expressions when they are talking. Ultimately, face to face conversation is the best, where we correctly interpret 70-80% of what a person says because we can see and hear them at the same time.

So... although it seems I'm engaging in a friendly exchange with you now, I'm actually foaming at the mouth with hatred. :P ;)

I agree. I've gotten in more trouble with e-mail, you can't tell what the other person is meaning as well and so one can get the wrong impression completely

I remember once I e-mailed someone and I didn't notice I had the caps lock down and I wrote quite a bit and then thought screw it I'm not going to re-write it so I hit send.

Instead of reading my e-mail or responding to the content they replied "did you know that when you write in all caps it means you are screaming" which I wasn't at all, but their interpretation was that I was pissed about what I was writing about and the whole message was lost, I had to find them face to face and deal with the e-mail before we could even discuss the content issue that was the reason I'd sent it in the first place.
