TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. -- A Florida snake handler was recovering Tuesday from a frightening attack. The 18-year-old said she was taking the giant python out of its cage for a daily show when the snake suddenly attacked.
Alison Cobinanchi is home healing after her close call with Chloe, a 14-foot Burmese python. The big snake turned a routine show at the Tarpon Springs Aquarium into something spectators won't soon forget.
"Her tail was coming out going around Alison's neck, pulling Alison in. So, I'm pulling the tail, just trying to keep the snake in the cage, Alison outside the cage," explained snake handler Nollie Bednark.
While Alison is a trained handler, nothing could have prepared her for what happened.
"My fingers were out, bit my knuckles. She had her teeth all the way in, which are pretty long and I don't have very big hands. She went through all my tendons," Alison explained. "I was really scared. I knew she wasn't going to kill me, because people were on the way, but I thought I was going to loss my fingers."
Alison's coworkers tried everything they knew to get the snake to release its hold. Finally, a quick thinking Tarpons Springs police officer came to the rescue and used a stun gun to help free Alison.
