So is everybody ready to get back to work and school.
The good thing is this week will be a short one, the weekend will be here in four short days.

I am not taking anything down until Saturday the lights can stay up, getting back to work is hard enough.

7. I had a good New Years, thanks!
I need a new DVD player, the one I have doesn't open right. You have to hold it open while you put the DVD in.

:hi:

I can put a card from my camera into it and see the pictures or movies.

Total surprise.

Still need to read the instructions.

2. I agree
I can't even think about reverse decorating until the weekend. Unfortunately for me, this is the beginning of tax season. I won't really see the light of day until after the 15th of April. :(

12. I am dreading the f***ing herd thundering back
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 09:54 PM by Skittles
it is so lovely when they are gone....as someone who never stops working during the holidays, I can predict dozens of assholes calling to whine because their application passwords don't work because they didn't bother resetting the damn things before they took the last two weeks off work

workers and their computers.

I don't know if I could handle her job or yours.

17. funny thing is
I don't even reset passwords - I fix the application problems. They don't even bother reading the error screen they get which clearly displays the number they need to call to get their passwords reset....I cannot tell you how much contempt I have for the majority of the idiot herd.

18. My company does not hire the best and brightest.
I hated having to train new people, entry level jobs are very easy but even then the new people had problems.

I am so glad to be out of that job.

13. Ready or not....my secretary will be in on Wednesday, but I have two funerals
Thursday, so I have work to do tomorrow, whether the office is "open" or not.

I never take decorations down until the end of Christmastide, which is Saturday. I'm a stickler on this point.

19. A sad time of year for funerals.
I married 5 couples over the holidays, I really don't like doing funerals.

21. I've had relatively few Advent/Christmas weddings over the years.
My parents were married on December 19, and I used to tease them that some poor pastor with too much to do already had to squeeze their wedding into his schedule. It also meant I rarely got home for their anniversary celebrations.

I don't much mind doing funerals, but, yes, it seems sadder at this time of year--short, dark days, contrast to the celebratory mood, just sad.

23. I've done two Christmas Eve funerals. Those are hard
All the world is feeling so happy, and the family and friends of the deceased are surrounded by grief. I tried to focus on hope, eternal life, light in the midst of darkness. But there's only so much one can say or do.

25. My friend's Uncle had cancer,
He really did try to make it until Christmas, all the family came.

So they had the funeral while everyone was still here.

27. The amazing thing is when people try to make it until all the family can see them off,
and they do, even though, by all medical evidence, they shouldn't be able to keep going. I've seen this several times, and it always amazes me. The human spirit, and the commitment to family and relationships, is a powerful thing.

These moments make me realize how important rituals like funerals are, for families, for communities. They acknowledge that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.

29. The Doctors had him dead back in October.
He held on, they did have a early Christmas but he just didn't make it to the 25th.

He wasn't in any pain and passed in his sleep.

15. I think the the next four days will be a waste anyway.
With New Years being on Monday, it takes a few days to get over the holidays.

Any place I worked the first few days back were lazy.
