The In-Laws demanded I go to The Olive Garden with them...
..or they wouldn't go.

I told my husband he better leave the bedroom, immediately, before I say something I'd regret.

What is it about that fucking restaurant that brings out the worst in people?

Now they are all in the living room...turning up the volume on the TV, as loud as they can, to retaliate.

Just kill me now. grrr.... :grr:

...on a stretcher, screaming, before it's all over Thursday...

Today is Monday, right? At least I can go back to work tomorrow. Thank God.

14. I have completely lost my appetite...
..I've had 3 cups of Jasmine Green Tea and a cup of coffee. I should make myself drink water, but I don't feel like it. I can't even stand to think about drinking another one of those Airborne things. ick. What I feel like having is some more Brandy...but I know it's the last thing I need...tell me it's the last thing I need, please?

I told them to bring me back something...something with a lot of garlic.

Thanks.

6. Time to send them to a hotel
Yes, I know that it's a cultural expectation that they stay with you, but I'm willing to bet it's also a cultural expectation for them to be gracious and considerate guests. You're sick, they're not helping matters. Tell hubby to pack them up and be quick about it if he doesn't want to be hanging out at the hotel with them, then remind him that when he married you, he took on the obligation to defend you against all threats to your health and happiness, including his folks when they can't be bothered to behave.

Next time they want to come visit, try to come up with a reason they can't stay more than a week, or encourage your husband to take them someplace for at least part of the trip so that you can have your house to yourself.

7. It's just Tuesday and Wednesday...then...
..they leave Thursday. I don't think my husband would dare allow any of his relatives to stay 3 weeks again (not in the dead of winter, anyway)...it's taken its toll on the both of us. I don't think I've ever seen him so irritable...the poor guy.

I think I can make it...now that they've left for a few hours...I have complete silence in the house, at the moment, and my ears are thanking me (especially since they seem to have fluid in them). Ahhh...I'll be okay.

Thanks.

23.  Once 3 adults stayed 5 days and showed no signs of leaving
And it was around Xmas , like there isn't enough to do without houseguests. I was getting really, really POed and finally told SO to tell them to find someplace else to stay. I would never stay more than 3 days at another person's house. And prefereably I'd stay at a hotel rather than be a houseguest. It's a real inconvenience after a while, no privacy, etc.

8. Then it's their choice not to go, if they want to be babies about it.
Tell them you're too sick to go out, you want to recuperate.

If they then say "We won't go if you won't" then say "Okay, but it's not my fault - it's the fault of your childishness."

10. I held my ground...
..until they left!! (well, for a couple of hours anyway)

:woohoo:

Even the cats are happy...they went straight to their little food dishes for treats...I told them they were very good and gave them lots of kitty treats (I know...I'm an old cat lady).

20. Exactly. "We won't go if you don't go" means they've decided
They're not going. Some people need to just grow up. ]

Oh, and visiting ANYONE for three weeks is just rude. I don't care how you're related.

11. Thanks...I'm happy now...
..the only sound I hear is some very loud purring from my Tabby cat. It's hilarious...I think she is happier than I about the momentary serenity.

Did you have a happy New Years celebration with one of my favorite DUers?

13. Argh.
I admire your fortitude. I couldn't tolerate having my *own* family stay with us for this long, much less my in-laws. I'm lucky in a way--my in-laws are allergic to cats and we have five of them, so whenever they come for a visit, they ALWAYS get a hotel, and we meet in neutral public locations for visits. :hi:

26. yeah... OG food can be ordered without "Tomatoes O.D."
sad as this is, i'm a prep/back-up cook at the OG in Morgantown WV...

Anything on the menu can be custom ordered/changed to suit the tastes/food allergies of a guest.
We do it all the time.

Now obviously there are a few sauces (meat sauce, marinara, tomato alfredo, and 5-cheese mari) that can't be altered, but every other dish in the place can be adjusted to accommodate the guest. You just have to tell your server.

24. Three weeks is too much for anyone
I am lucky in my relations. They are very nice. But I like to live without being on stage. If I leave my bathroom a little messy -- I did it. If someone else does it for more than a few days we have a problem.

My advice always is to be nice. But three weeks is beyond the threshold.
