I don’t know a Sandy Beach, but I went to school in Southern California with a Sandy Bridge and her brother, Jack. When I was a child, my pediatrician was named Dr. Stork. His office was in a medical/dental building that also housed a dentist named Dr. Moler and a surgeon named Dr. Butcher. Thanks to my grandmother, who talked my mother into saying the name aloud, quickly, several times, I was not named “Dawn Kay” as originally planned…thanks Gramma! In the late 1970s I was a recruiter and reviewed a lot of resumes…some of the names I remember: Peter Phan, Bu Baiu (Blue Bayou) and a gentleman unfortunately surnamed “Ratshit” (pronounced “Rasheed”). I can remember interviewing a “Royal Shields,” and another man with the surname of “Pawlicker.” Several years ago I worked for a company and part of my duties entailed publishing a company newsletter. Among the contributors were two women named “Secret” and “Precious” and a man named “July.” In Northern California I discovered a line of Mexican snack foods with the brand name “Bimbos.” Imagine my surprise to find a whole chain of restaurants with the same name when I came to South Africa! Apparently “Bimbo” doesn’t mean the same thing as it does to Americans! The local African names are beautiful…Nomatemba, Tembeka, Nokuzola…but I have come across people named Beauty, Education, and Intelligence, and read a news article about a woman named “Hester Bester.” I guess the tendency to give children unfortunate names is not exclusively American!
I know a Rose Bush - married into it.... I went to school with a Seeman ... Worked with a Sandy Botham... AND I was friends with a girl who's last name was "Sparks" and her father was in business with a partner named "Burns", and they sold FIRE insurance. oh, and my last name is 1 letter short of Urine and thanks to Microsoft Spell checker, it sometimes gets "corrected" for me. Don't think school kids didn't catch it either! -C.URIE - and I share a birthday with Madame Curie.
When I was in high school, I heard a girl called over the intercom a couple times - Anita Pee - and I just assumed it was a joke. Nope, there really was an Anita Pee. Cliche, you say? Let me continue. Soon yearbooks were distributed and I discovered Anita has a younger brother named Chris... the kid's name is Chris Pee! Crispy! Hahaha!
a family in my neighborhood had the surname Carr. Their son's name? Dusty Carr. I always felt bad for him.
