Christmas family blowout stories! Post em!
None this year, thank god.

But a few years ago my eldest sister had a pickle up her ass about something and it all escalated into a major deal that ended with me as the centre of attention. I got to find out all the reasons my sisters resented me. So, it was loads of fun. Course that also solved alot of issues and things are cool now. So, it was a good thing in the long run.

1. That's always a good time....
When family resentments bubble up and consume all the good tidings and what not...

3. When I was a kid
My mom's two brothers, then in their late 20s, early 30s, got into a huge fight, I believe over the fact that my youngest uncle got all the attention when they were kids. Beer bottles were thrown against walls, there was screaming, and I think they've probably seen each other once or twice in the intervening years.

Then there was my best friend's psycho brother, who learned a little too much about physical violence from their dad. (My friend, on the other extreme, apologizes incessantly even when she hasn't done anything wrong.) I forget the details, but he tried to beat up their kindly, elderly, in-poor-health stepfather over something stupid, during which time the police had to be called. Nothing says the holiday season like a deputy sheriff in the driveway on Christmas.

4. My father was an atheist
And anything religious ticked him off. I mean, like religious Christmas music on the radio or Christmas specials on television. He'd turn on the tv and there would be the Mormon Tabernacle choir. He'd change the channel and it would be the goddam pope. (The rest of us were at least slightly religious). He wasn't just indifferent, he could barely tolerate it one day a year. Religion made him swear.

When we buried him I got my liberal minister to give an appropriate sermon for an atheist, but I neglected to give instructions to the soloist, who belted out "How Great Thou Art". I think my mother and siblings and I all expected him to sit up in the coffin and start swearing.
