Tipping your postal person....
I just got a subtle hint to tip my postal person...
What do you do...just leave an envelope in the mailbox with his name on it?

5. Cookies are usually pretty good. We made sure to wrap them in a clear covering so that they
could easily be seen by the postal person. You know, so they wouldn't be freaked out about what it was or what was in it.

8. Including the recipe is also a good idea..
Some people have allergies to common foods. Such as peanuts.

11. heheh
on really cold days, my Grandmother used to leave a shot of whiskey on the table just inside the door. When the mailman came, he'd open the door reach in, grab the glass, and return the empty glass a few seconds later, and the door would close. No words were exchanged.

13. I think my newspaper carrier is expecting a tip
Since he included a greeting card TO me but with HIS full address in it in my paper.

I don't like such a blatant hint for something (last year the recycling guy left a newsletter in the bin that included pictures of him hiking in the Rockies along with a hint for a tip) but even more, I don't like that this guy is too lazy to pull in my driveway and just fires the paper out of his car window from the street and always either throws it into a puddle, snowbank, or my freshly planted flowers depending upon the season.

The carrier for the other paper, pulls into the drive and tosses my paper onto the porch. He, I may tip. And I always leave something for the postal carrier who is a great person and goes out of her way to keep my mail and packages dry and hidden if necessary.

23. For a real paper boy/girl Christmas tips are good
I mean someone not an adult, is not driven around by mom or dad. Someone out in all the elements delivering good service to you.

When I was a paper boy in Detroit, Christmas tips were a BIG deal and very much appreciated. And I didn't beg for them with a fake greeting card.

Sometimes tipping is more of a bribe to get good service.

I don't expect tips from my "customers" at work. Why should a fairly compensated postal worker with a decent retirement plan expect (as an adult) a tip for doing his/her job.

Nobody is talking about tipping the UPS or Fedex person. And they deliver QUALITY service the year 'round.

:)

15. I think tipping a letter carrier is ridiculous and may actually be illegal.
Federal employees are prohibited from accepting gifts unless they are turned over to the Feds instead of being kept for personal use. Since the US Postal Service is a quasi-Federal agency, I'd think they would also be prohibited.

Besides, postal workers DO have good benefits and decent pay. If you really want to do something for them, bake cookies or something edible to give to them---NOT cash.

16. our post office lady, is also
a good friend of ours, so we always get her a gift(usually soemthing drinkable and with a touch of firewater)...if the post office delivery person wasn't our friend, I'm sure would leave a little card, or baked good.

19. I'd tip mine if he would quit delivering other people's mail to my address.
Almost every day I get something for some other address, sometimes even a different zip code. My neighbors tell me the same thing - they are always getting each other's mail and mail for addresses not even in our neighborhood. He really should retire. I'm not interested in tipping someone who can't even do their job properly.

22. I have a tip for mine.
Stop leaving junk mail in my box. We fight over this all of the time. I say "I don't want junk mail that doesn't have my name on it". He/She says "there is no such thing as junk mail". And on and on we go.

Me: Stop cramming my mailbox with junk, please.
Postie: How am I supposed to know what's junk and what's not?
Me: Easy. The stuff that's not junk has my name on the envelope.
Postie: But companies have paid to have the other stuff delivered.
Me: Not my problem. If someone paid to send me dog poo, would you deliver that too?
Postie: No. There's a law against sending dog poo.
Me: Well there should be a law against this poo as well.
Postie: There isn't, so there's nothing I can do.
Me: Look, it's my mailbox and my house. Surely I have the right to decide what comes through the door?
Postie: Sure you do. You can have mail delivery canceled.
Me: But then I wouldn't get the mail I do want to get, would I?
Postie: Nope.
Me: So, in order to get legitimate mail, I have to get junk?
Postie: That pretty much sums it up.
Me: That's blackmail.
Postie: No it isn't. Blackmail is illegal.
Me: Do you go on a training course to learn all these stock responses?
Postie: Week three at mailman school.

24. What was the "subtle hint"?
We always give a little something, but it's usually something edible and sweet, as opposed to money. This year, it will be a small wrapped package of chocolate-covered gingerbread cookies. Yummy!

:hi:
