Was Michael Medved always a reactionary?
'Cuz I have a book by him, circa 1982, of (non-partisan)accounts of the production of financial cinematic disasters, and it's pretty funny. I'd hate to think he was typing this with one hand and masturbating to a Reagan speech with the other.

1. When I was an intern at a not-for-profit GLBT news program in 2000,
I was cataloging unmarked tapes and came across a reversion therapy conference at which he and Maggie Gallagher were the keynote speakers.

As far as when he jumped off the right-wong wacko cliff, I have no idea.

7. I had never heard that before.
But maybe he crossed over when he felt it was more profitable.

3. Apparently there's a market for right wing film reviews these days
What with all the gay penguins and sponges cropping up in kids movies.

6. Read "What Really Happened to the Class of '65"
He cowrote it, and there's a chapter on him.

8. I have this theory, that formerly "good" guys get caught
doing something for which they'd face serious jail time/end of career. Maybe selling drugs (b/c we all know if you're even reasonably famous or wealthy, you don't get too busted for using), or getting caught with someone underage (same sex or opposite sex) or child porn, or you kill someone (maybe accidental, but still), or ... and the feds say "look, people like you (like Dennis Miller, James Woods), you're reasonably respected. So, we'll cut you slack if you switch to our side. But remember, we always have you by the short and curly".

Or, their kids did something, or some event happened that these people want to keep hidden.

 I have no other idea why formerly good liberals, seemingly openminded people, go nuts and join the dark side.

9. he is actually very able to review matters as they truly are, he's just fallen...
into this right-wing template of 'talk radio contrarian/i'm going to make sure my bread gets buttered on the right side' gig...i wish he'd just review movies myself

10. He made his bones as a simple film critic, collaborating with brother Harry
on a series of books humorously lambasting Hollywood's worst moments. Ever heard of "The Golden Turkey Awards"?

11. I have his book "The Golden Turkey Awards" and its pretty funny. You would never guess
his political leanings from it, though. It's just a comedy book about the worst movies ever made.

12. Yeah, this is the sequel,
"The Hollywood Hall of Shame". I like it, even though I kinda like some of the movies he says bombed.
