2. Noises are generally either a fan or hard drive
First thing I would do is think of any critical data you might have and put it on a cd or something. Is this a desktop or laptop? Is the noise constant?

3. It is an air leak.
The electrons entering your computer through the Internet tubes can pile up and cause the computer to get sort of bloated. If too much air backs up the computer can get something like compressor stalls. All it's doing is letting the excess air out; what you're hearing is just a touch of cyberflatulence.

4. cover the hole with duct tape....
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 08:20 PM by mike_c
Stick the main box under water in the tub to locate the air leak-- you'll see bubbles where the air is coming out. You can seal it with duct tape until you get a computer patch kit.

12. When was the last time you fed the hamsters?
I mean, they get awfully hungry running that wheel for hours on end...

Seriously...mine started to grind. And grind. And grind. God, it was awful and it went on for the better part of a year. I backed up everything I had (nearly) on floppies but then when I replaced the computer, the first one I bought didn't have a floppy drive.

That was better than nothing, though.

Back up anything you have that you don't want to lose. Do it now.
